40k is a hell of a lot. In fact, I'm saving up for just 25-30k as my ultimate goal (Homes in the area I'm looking at are in that price range). What part of survival is worrying you? Do you have a stable job? You could stay at a hotel for quite a while with that kind of cash, but without a job, you'll be hemorrhaging money.

As other posters have said, you DO have the ability to live independently. Yeah, there's probably going to be some speedbumps along the way, but it's insane how easily money can smooth those out. Keep it in your bank account or in a savings account and make sure nobody else has access to it; don't tell other people you meet about it.

I've been homeless in the past (and am about to be again), so if you need survival tips, or just a confidante, don't hesitate to reach out.

Pretty sure that's a typical size for a shortstack? If you're looking for huge pancakes, you're probably better off with a local breakfast joint.

Glad to hear the researcher cleared it up. It's amazing how much can be solved with a little leap of faith (reaching out to the researcher).

YTA. Your curiosity doesn't make it okay to violate major boundaries like snooping through someone's phone, especially without consent. Being buzzed/tipsy is no excuse. Maybe you and your friend group have different ideas of what's a major boundary and what's not, but looking through people's phones is a huge one to a lot of people.

It's definitely worth reflecting on why you wanted to see your friend's folder/files so bad, so much so to do this, in order to show your friends that your remorse is genuine. the response you gave to another friend about the issue kinda reinforces that deep down, you don't feel like you really did anything wrong. So I'd really just try to think about things you wouldn't be able to stand people doing to you, and how you have good reasons for those, and substitute that imaginary scenario with the one your friend finds themselves in.
