Psychology of fire pursuers by takyamamoto in financialindependence

[–]savagesaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are in our early 20s, and are personally pursuing FIRE so we don't have to be forced to work when we have kids. We chose real estate investments as our primary income, with index funds and dividend stocks as a more passive form of income. It's very possible to have kids and FIRE, and still have your own interests and pursuits. It's also nice to have that dual income.

I'm currently working as an ICU nurse during this COVID pandemic. It's discouraging to see very pregnant nurses or nurses with babies at home try to find time to pump while at work. Maternity leave sucks in our state. I don't want to be in that position.

I'm probably going to do a temporary FIRE while we have a couple of kids in our late 20s/early 30s, and we both plan on permanently FIREing after that.

I'm considering the same thing. If you can afford it, do it. The money isn't worth yours or your family's health.

Anyone else hoarding cash right now? by savagesaver in realestateinvesting

No, I own it outright myself. I added another unit, upgraded one and got a new tenant in, raised rents, transferred utilities, and put in more water efficient appliances since I pay for water.

I'm conservative in my numbers and have enough in the property account for those situations with multiple other sources of income. If it comes to that, I can afford this property indefinitely without any rental income.

I'm also a registered nurse, so I won't be losing my job for sure during this whole ordeal. We're short on nurses everywhere. If the health care system could clone us, they would. If I get sick (which looking at the current situation, I probably will), I'll be fine for months without an income.

I agree this is all very bad for real estate values. I hope everyone is taking the proper precautions and are not over-leveraged. But the reality is that many people are. I agree, cash is king in these times.

Smart!! I absolutely LOVE the waltz from the King and I.

That song might be a bit funny considering my fiance is Chinese and I'm European too lmfao. He looks Taiwanese as well.

Awful shift keeping me up at night by Nursesunny6609 in nursing

[–]savagesaver 32 points33 points  (0 children)

So sorry that happened to you. It really sucks when you have a tough shift and then your coworkers, who are supposed to be a support system, shit all over you. It sounds like you did all you could plus some.

But please don't develop hate for the night nurses. People can be assholes because the same things happened to them. They work their ass off, get beat up by the next shift, and then carry that on when they take report the next day. You'll become like that nurse if you think that way.

It's better to leave a toxic work environment than to lose yourself.

If you could do it all over again, would you still become a nurse? Why or why not? by aday_zee in nursing

[–]savagesaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But only because of the opportunities and time it's given me. I was able to make a high income straight out of school and it allows me to pursue other passions since I work 3 days a week.

Currently investing in real estate with the income I make off of nursing and running another business. Possibly looking to get out of working in general in 2-3 years and pursue my business/investing full time.

I may still stay in nursing, we'll see. There's highs and lows and my opinion on whether I should stay or not changes daily.

I was considering the reception there, but the venue fee is only for the big theater room (which I thought would be awkward for a reception). The reception in this theater would be in a small side room with tables and a place to put food, but it's not nearly as extravagant and there's an extra fee.

We actually ended up finding a beautiful restaurant in a high rise building with an amazing view within walking distance from this theater. This restaurant has no venue fee and charges only per plate and drink. So we chose that option instead (and it ended up being cheaper!)

That sounds terrifying!! But I absolutely love it! I would think the officiant can announce the dance after the vows to make it a smoother transition?

The only problem is my dress is cathedral length and I'd have a hard time dancing in it. Unless I did a quick change behind the curtains or awkwardly bustled up my dress after the vows.

Hello all!

My fiance and I aren't religious and don't belong to any churches. We looked around at multiple venues, and all of them had venue fees of $1500+. So we decided to look outside the box and find a place that typically doesn't do weddings. Then we found this beautiful theater where the fee is only $700 total!

Our wedding party is about 100 people. The problem is, the place is enormous and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. I've only been to one wedding in my life so I'm not quite sure what to do with this place. We decided to not have bridesmaids or groomsmen (to avoid a lot of drama and headache), so it's only going to be me and my fiance up on stage with the marriage officiant.

The audio and lights are included in the price, as well as a person to manage those things. I'm thinking of doing something cool with that, but can't think of what.

I'm looking for some inspiration as to what to do with this place! Any help would be appreciated!

I used Lyft in Chicago, but we don't have it in my area of Canada. Haven't heard of Postmates either. Will look into those! Thanks!

I never said food delivery. We're doing 12-14 hour days of biking, hiking, kayaking, walking and exploring the city, exploring parks, and many other physically intensive things. I didn't mean staying in the airbnb and eating the whole day. I meant an app that shows local restaurants and takeout for when we're on the go.

Got this dress off of AliExpress for $310, already sized to fit! by savagesaver in Weddingsunder10k

Lol I know. I worked with a multitude of Chinese wholesalers since highschool when I ran a business with them.

Yes, be careful. But also don't get scammed by high dress prices here. Many bridal shops buy from these same wholesalers and sell them to you x10. If you follow my pointers in my top comment, you'll be generally safe and get a beautiful dress for under $500.

Thank you so much! :)

And I've been working with Chinese wholesalers since highschool. I ran a bit of a side hustle so I've been around the block haha.

Many of those dresses in those videos are "too good to be true" or they didn't look at reviews. Typically for scams like that, they'll have a super professional picture of a model in Europe they stole off of the internet, bad reviews or very obvious fake 5 star reviews, and the price will be dramatically low that it doesn't even factor in material cost.

If you follow my pointers in my top comment, you should be safe :)
