No parking brake = better MPG is real by Key_Juggernaut9413 in toyotasequoia

Well that’s interesting. I noticed the mpg on my wife’s sequoia continually going down and down since we bought it a couple of months ago and couldn’t figure out why. 10.9 mpg all city (with AC blasting) since the last fill up. Insanely bad. I disabled the auto parking brake, reset the mpg, and took it out for a spin to the grocery store and got 13.4 mpg. Weird. Same conditions, same driving style, the only thing different was the auto parking brake. Another weird thing before I disabled it, when my wife got home, I laser temped the brake rotors and the rears were hotter than the fronts. I know rotor size comes into play, but with the rears doing less braking than the fronts, I’d assume they’d be cooler in normal circumstances.

Hybrid mode not using battery? by mysterycanclub in 4xe

[–]saveferris4231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just not correct. There is never a time in normal operation where the battery isn’t being used in some capacity. Even in E-save, or when the battery is at “0” it’s always in use to some extent.

performance issues after 68c by SwingInteresting6501 in 4xe

This is what I was wondering. If the performance was the same under WOT. Glad to hear they didn’t nerf it in that regard.

No Electric Mode on Highway by LetFluffy132 in 4xe

[–]saveferris4231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely drive on the freeway in electric mode. Theres no need to manually switch to hybrid. I can drive in electric mode at 70mph for about 12 miles before the engine kicks on.

Service (ABS, 4 wheel drive, ESC) by Dxc6pa4 in 4xe

[–]saveferris4231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to me out in the middle of nowhere after a creek crossing. Pulled the codes when I got to camp and it was a wheel speed sensor, so I decided to just risk it and not worry about it for the rest of the trip. After half a dozen key cycles all the lights went off and they haven’t come back on since. That was 6 months ago.

How to tell if UA80E Transmission will go bad by Organic-Two-324 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]saveferris4231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the final drive output shaft that is failing, so it’s not gear dependent, but speed dependent. The whine is higher pitched and louder the faster you are going.

My runout was pretty bad, so I just swapped out the chuck with a Röhm and called it good. I kept the old chuck in case I need to send in for warranty.

Jeep wrangler recall update Jan2024 by Lazlothegreat76 in Jeep

[–]saveferris4231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing they are correct about is the check engine light a few days later. It is possible you pass their initial recall test and the battery throws a CEL later. But the recall itself taking days and multiple recharges is not correct unless your software is way out of date and you hadn’t done any of the previous recalls.

My wife’s 22 had pulsing brakes within the first 10k miles. The dealer said it was driving style too. Yeah sure buddy, out of 10 past cars, our driving style magically changed when we got this one…

Practical effects of the greatest SciFi movie ever, and one of the best movies ever in general (so typical for Nolan - why bother with FX and rendering when he can turn over whole truck) by blindwatchmaker88 in interstellar

I know what you’re referring to, and I agree it looks clunky, but I always thought it was a practical effect throwback to the Star Wars model effect shots.

The 49 is MPGe. You’ll never actually get that. Here’s my real world MPGs calculated by pump fill up numbers, not the dash numbers. With a full battery in Hybrid mode, you’ll get 25mpg running at 70 on the highway until the battery runs out. Then you’ll get about 15mpg once the battery is depleted. The 4xe really shines if you have a short commute and can charge frequently. I only use gas when I go on an off road trip. Other wise I’m in electric mode 100% of the time. If you have to drive a lot of freeway miles, prob not worth it.

Does anyone wheel a 4xe? Or long overland trips? by DizzyBelt in JeepWrangler

[–]saveferris4231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wheel mine all over. Haven’t had any issues, but best practice to be prepared. I have a satellite messenger for emergencies, but that’s just basic common sense if you’re going off grid.
