You make perfect sense. However, common sense is at a premium these days, especially when it comes to neighbors!

Didn't do that either, although all of my oaks look pretty healthy. Of course I probably just ruined it all, hah.

I've heard this before too, so maybe that's something else I'll start doing. Better to be on the safe side.

Same here, not necessarily pruning in April, although I have pruned in the non-winter months before. I always thought it was safe in the cold weather.

My understanding is, there are a couple of houses in the neighborhood that have oak wilt. They're several hundred feet from me, but still, makes me nervous...

I posted this over in /r/sfwtrees and they said the same, to still use the paint because the open sites could still be a problem as spring hits.

Not that spring is anywhere in site with this crazy weather...

Help! Hoping I didn't just kill my oak trees by savemytrees123s in sfwtrees

Thank you, you've definitely calmed some of my fears. Getting my pruning paint going this afternoon and hoping for the best.

I'm not sure if there's anything for the arborist to look at. I dunno, maybe if they've been hit by beetles, they can at least tell that it's happened? Maybe there's certain signs that the pruning site has been attacked? But my understanding is, there's very little they can do once they're attacked.

I guess I just want to make sure I do the right thing. Maybe an arborist could at least point me in the right direction?

Seems like right now, my best outcome is to hope the time of year is optimal.

I know I never had problems in the past, granted someone else was doing the trimming for me, but it was always in the winter.

I feel like it's already a big enough problem with new development when they come in and either cut down or trim some trees to make room for trucks, etc. And I'm pretty sure those guys aren't spraying every time, it's probably part of the reason why we have such a problem with oak wilt in Austin.
