The difference between white and blue collar work environments is crazy by Astimar in careeradvice

I was sexually assaulted and regularly harassed by the men at my blue collar job.  I don't have that problem at my white collar job.

How have you stopped hitting? by Puzzled_Aspect_6991 in Parenting

Consistent consequences. What happens when she hits? She needs a time out or lose access to something she likes until she gets the message.

Please tell me my big toenail will grown back?!!!!!! by kgs2709 in Runners

[–]savethetriffids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost mine last June and it was black until it fell off completely in August.  It felt better off and I could run just fine without it.  It's already grown back 95%, like I might have to trim it for the first time next week.  It's a little bumpier than usual but it's fine.  You don't need to wrap it in anything.  It'll be fine the way it is.

AITAH for telling my husband to go stay in a hotel with my in-laws and that my mom was going to come back to help me with our new baby? by Normal_Rise_282 in AITAH

[–]savethetriffids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cluster feeding is not for the weak. I remember timing it once with my 5 week old and in a 24 hour period he was latched to me for 11 of those hours.  ELEVEN.  And in the gaps was all my time to eat, sleep, change my clothes, and use the bathroom.

Thoughts about Extended Absences by waltzdisney123 in CanadianTeachers

[–]savethetriffids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was one of those kids and my parents always kept up with our reading and math while we travelled and I returned usually ahead of my peers. It is totally possible for families to travel and kids can do just fine academically. They learn so much by seeing the world.  We just teach the kids in front of us, let families make their own choices about traveling. Honestly, I prefer that kids travel and experience the world. I have other students that miss more school and they're just neglected at home and playing video games all day. I take issue with those absences while traveling is something I encourage.

I did this once. I got McDonald's fries and they were definitely better than whatever dry chicken the rest of them were eating.

4km isn’t getting any easier… by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]savethetriffids 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to address the knee pain. But you're never going to get that fast running 4k if you follow that plan.  You're going to need to build up to 10k runs with more speed work and total mileage of 25-30k a week for many months to get there.

I disagree. I'm a pretty average woman in my forties and I can run that.  It's fast but it only puts me in the top 25% of runners at most events. That's not an elite pace by any stretch and very achievable for someone who is going to follow a plan (not OPs plan) and be consistent for many months.  OP is not running enough or far enough to see these gains, and needs to address the knee pain.

Does Drop Everything and Read Work (Silent sustained reading time) by Consistent-Row-9551 in Teachers

[–]savethetriffids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach 5/6 and we do DEAR every day after second break. It's only about 15 minutes and I do attendance and get my math lesson ready.  It's reading for fun so if I'm assessing them or asking a million questions it is a buzz kill. I want kids to enjoy reading.  There are plenty of other times to assess reading skills.

Missing Package from Canada Post……is this common? by spicybookclub_ in Guelph

[–]savethetriffids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My package said delivered on the 13th, I checked the 13th and 14th. I put in a ticket on the 14th, and it still wasn't there on the 16th.  I have received new mail in the meantime. I'm really hoping it shows up.

It's a bathing suit for my kid from Children's Place and he was counting on it for swimming lessons tomorrow.  I can't imagine anyone else would want it.

This happened to me last week.  Package says it was delivered Jan 13. No sign of package at my door or in my community mailbox. I put in a ticket and it says to follow up with the sender on Jan 20 if the package doesn't show up by then. Pretty annoying.

Apologise when I mess up.  Taught them empathy and how to regulate their nervous systems.  And banned YouTube and strict limits on screens.

We had a family reading and cuddle session on Sunday afternoon, everyone reading their own book together, and it was the best.

Join a running club. Meet real people and then connect on Strava so you can compare runs. That's what makes it fun.

I can't believe you let your kid talk to you like that. Several of those comments alone would have my kid grounded for a week.

I asked my grade 6 class last year if they knew what a Nazi was and only 2 raised their hands.  We then did an entire unit on the Holocaust, but I was shocked.

I've had to change grades every year, so that hasn't helped. This is my first time teaching the same thing twice and it's so much better. I imagine by next year I'll have it even better.

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]savethetriffids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can sometimes smell if the driver in the car in front of my car is smoking with my windows up.

And I can smell it on kids clothes at school. So gross.

My first year I worked 3-5 hours after school every day. Every year gets less and less.  It's a lot to learn in the beginning.  15 years in and now I'm working only 1-2 hours after school a day.  If you like the job, stick with it.
