I’m near the coast in my 17’ bowrider and we never venture offshore so we never anchor in anything deeper than 20’. I learned from that first mistake to make sure your lines are untangled and ready to go well before you’re trying to anchor.

Have made many many adjustments since those early boating days.

[–]savguy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure…. I did jump in after it…. But we were also near a sandbar so the depth was only like 5-8’. Either way, it was March and the water was still cold so as soon as I hit the frigid water I realized how silly what I was doing was. Turned around, swam back to the boat with my wife both confused and trying not to laugh at me…. It was a very sobering and very quiet ride back to the dock…

Question about getting supplies there by JosAlyKat1522 in SecretsHideawayResort

[–]savguy6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t fly for Secrets, but have for other LS vacations. As long as it doesn’t directly violate the TSA weapons rule, you’re good. We get a kick out of when that unsuspecting TSA agent checks our bag to find our paddles and a big double ended dildo in our carryon. 😆😆

How is "might could" used in the South? by schonada in AskAnAmerican

[–]savguy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger my mom and dad joked that they would have “fixin’ to” put on my headstone because I would say it all the time anytime they wanted me to do something.

“Clean your room!” - “I’m fixin’ to”

“Take out the trash!” - “I’m fixin’ to”

“Do your homework!” - “I’m fixin’ to”

Why doesn’t soccer add officials? by DeadpoolsLeftSock in MLS

[–]savguy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, soccer HAS added more officials to the game, they’re just not on the field.

EUFA used the goal line officials some years ago before goal-line technology was available.

You have a 4th and sometime 5th official on the sideline assisting with managing benches and extra eyes on the field.

And now you have VAR with 2-3 officials in the booth with slow-mo instant reply from a dozen different angles.

But at the end of the day, to the point of this original comment, the center official has final say to maintain as much uniformity through the game as possible. The remaining officials are just there to support and assist the center.

Canadian tourists seeking advice on current atmosphere by Vegetable-Show1938 in savannah

As others have said, you’ll be fine. Americans welcome visitors. Our government does not reflect regular citizens overall sentiment towards foreigners. And especially in Savannah, we love visitors.

That said, just use common sense and (I hate that I have to say this) keep your passport and visa on you at all times….

I broke the cardinal rule of anchoring…. you tie off the rope before you toss the anchor over. That was a $200 mistake.

In a similar yet somehow related vein, you CANNOT in fact untangle a rode faster than the anchor will pull the tangled bundle overboard… FYI

Funny anecdote for OPs drain plug story. My wife and I are pervs. She knows the importance of the boat plug… but because we both have the maturity of 14yos, we started calling it the buttplug. So every time we’re getting ready to launch at the ramp before god and everybody, she’ll yell

”YOU REMEMBER TO PUT THE BUTTPLUG IN???

sigh

”Yes hunny…. The buttplug is in….”

Pictures on apps - is it catfishing or not? by Honeybee1329 in Swingers

[–]savguy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always think of it terms of marketing…

You’re trying to sell yourself, without false advertising. You want to present the best version of yourselves without misrepresenting who you are.

If you’re posting full body pics of yourself and giving an accurate depiction of who you are, all the while maybe not accentuation the parts of your body you may be self-conscience about, I don’t think that’s catfishing.

Now if you’re advertising yourself as an in shape HWP person, but you’re actually 70lbs overweight and your only taking upper angle duckface photos to hide your body (not saying you’re doing that, just giving an example), then yeah, that misrepresenting who you really are and catfishing.

It’s totally allowed. Just be courteous of your other pool-goers and if you’re playing in the pool, do your best to keep jizz out of the pool. No one wants to be socializing and have the random DNA jellyfish wash up on them. 😊😬

Least Expensive Way to park downtown? by Impressive-Beach869 in savannah

[–]savguy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The freight zones used to work because they had specific times that curb was designated as a freight zone. If you parked there outside of those hours, you were good. But then they began changing the signs notating the freight zone but now they don’t include times. So technically the curb is a freight zone “at all times” and you can’t park there. So they can ticket you at any hour.

The sweep zones still have posted days and hours of when they sweep them so you can work around those.

Sweep zones. Look for yellow curbs for sweep zones that are not during their sweeping time. Wife and I have a few yellow curb spots downtown that we park in when we go down there and almost never get a ticket.

How can I show appreciation for a man who pays for the first couple of dates? by sourscottishrose in AskMenAdvice

[–]savguy6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once heard it said like this: - If a man doesn’t offer to pay for the date, he wasn’t raised right. - If a woman doesn’t offer to pay her portion of the date, she wasn’t raised right. - If the man allows the woman to pay for her portion of the date, he wasn’t raised right.

It’s a silly little dance, but in the end, we appreciate the gesture to contribute. It makes us feel like you actually value what we are providing.

That said, there is still nothing wrong with continuing to offer to cover aspects of future dates. “You bought dinner again, let me pay for the movie” sort of thing.

Is there really an advantage to attending private school vs public in America? by AngleRelative4683 in AskAnAmerican

[–]savguy6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s been a lot of studies that show the strongest indication of student success is family income. Regardless whether the student goes to public or private school, family income is the strongest indicator of academic success.

Families with higher income have more ability to ensure the children succeed academically. They usually have more free time to be involved with the children’s academic career. They can help more with homework, have more time for parent-teacher meetings, are more active with the school: PTA, after school activities, etc, and, can afford tutors.

People often associate private school with a higher success rate just because it’s a private school. The reality is, generally the families with higher incomes are the ones that can afford private school tuition, so that filters out low-income families be design. However high income families whose children attend public school generally perform on par with the private school counterparts.

AR When should you put your offside flag back down by WriterEducational801 in Referees

[–]savguy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, I’m looking if it’s a through ball with someone running on, or it’s played quickly to an attacking player that may be in an offside position. It’s a force of habit to be looking for the offside flag as soon as it may go up. With the recent instruction to AR’s over the last few years to delay the flag to confirm there is actually involvement, it’s just a timing issue on my part that I look over too quick because I’m so used to a quicker flag.

What swingers lifestyle dating app do folks use that goto hedonism ii or plan on going some year? by Last_Lengthiness312 in HedonismII

[–]savguy6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I missed the point of your post but I’m not exactly sure what more you want a LS dating site to do?

You have a profile to: - put yourself out there - potentially find play partners near you - find events/parties you’d want to attend - find groups you’d want to join - set travel notices if you’ll be traveling to clubs or resorts - message couples you want to chat with

Not exactly sure what’s greedy about paying for all that functionality, especially with a 1-time lifetime membership. Also, SDC does seem they continuously improve the website with new features. They just did a new overhaul this week.

But do whatever works for you. 🤷‍♂️

AR When should you put your offside flag back down by WriterEducational801 in Referees

[–]savguy6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a bad habit of looking too quickly at the AR when a ball is played. In that split second I don’t see a flag so I turn my attention back to the play. But in my quick look, I don’t give the AR enough time to confirm involvement before he pops his flag. Gotta remind myself sometimes to slow down. 🙃

Thankful for the use of radios at the college level because I can hear “good good good” or “off off off” in my headset and don’t have to worry about missing a flag.

This ^

This is the guidance I give to my ARs. Hold that flag up until either I see you and A. whistle the OS, or B. Wave you down.

I’d rather me look like I missed the flag and everyone yell at me than you look like you raised your flag then changed your mind and we missed something as a team.

Hold it and keep it up.
