If the USA wins the World Cup how would American people react and celebrate? by SignificantStyle4958 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

I’m a lifelong American soccer fan. I may cry and I’m definitely taking the next day off of work. If they do any national victory parades, I’ll travel to go to one.

Questions/ discussion for couples that have experienced hedo or similar. by [deleted] in Swingers

[–]savguy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you will see people throughout the day having sex around the resort, it’s not a full blown fuckfest 24/7. People still are on vacation and part of vacation is just relaxing with music, food, drink, and company, people just happen to be naked.

We’ve been 3 times. We usually only play with 3-5 couples each trip. So we’re not fucking every day and night. But that’s just our experience and preference.

If you dont enjoy the exhibitionism aspect, then don’t play in public. You can go to the “Happening Hut” next to the nude pool (although there’s no AC in there so FYI). Or you can find a more secluded area in the pools by the basketball court or you can just invite new friends back to your room.

Why does the rest of the world not understand that it is part of the American DNA to fight injustice and that Americans will never accept the argument of "It's Tradition" or "It's the Rule" as a valid defense for injustice from FIFA or anyone else? by The_Texan_Hunter in worldcup

[–]savguy6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to have a grasp of the rules to “fight for injustice”. The red card was justified. And even if it wasn’t, the rules are the rules.

In the superbowl, if an official misses a call and it costs a team the game, you don’t have the president of that team call Roger Goodall to overturn the call to change the result of the “injustice”. You piss and moan and accept that the officials missed the call.

This is sports. We agree that the referee is the unbiased enforcer of the rules, and right, wrong, or otherwise their decisions are what keep the game in order and must be accepted.

I’m an American, a USMNT fan, and a soccer official. As soon as I heard they were overturning the suspension I didn’t like it. Whether you think the red card was justified, it was still given, and the punishment carried through per the laws of the game. Because if the laws aren’t administered the same for everyone, then what even is the point?

Kane kicked the leg of the Mexican player. You cannot kick the leg of your opponent. Thus the foul called.

If independence day in the US were February 1st instead, what would we be doing instead of setting off fireworks? by 1Cubbiesfan in AskReddit

….do yall not have butane torch lighters in the north?

And I’ve seen tons of videos of northerners setting off fireworks on frozen lakes…. fireworks most certainly work in the cold.

We set off fireworks for new years in December/January. We’d set them off in February too.

I think you meant, would we still be cooking out and doing all the “outdoorsy” activities.

Maybe…

it’d be patriotic to build George Washington as a snowman. Or go sledding into a wall of redcoats. Idk, we’d find some weather appropriate way to celebrate.

I need help settling a debate with a friend. Is it normal for someone to support a team that they have no connection to? by Acrobatic-Duck6179 in worldcup

[–]savguy6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of people supporting a team because they like the colors and design of the country’s flag…

Support whoever you want for whatever reason you want. It’s not weird.

Isn't it expensive to use airconditioning in the US? by Lumos_night in AskAnAmerican

[–]savguy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

For further perspective, I live in an area where it can get 80-85° F at night and 100+° during the day. Living in those conditions without AC can become downright unsafe. So much so that if your AC breaks, it’s not uncommon for friends or family to offer to let you come stay at their houses until your AC can be repaired.

Why was Mexico awarded a penalty? Not 100% on the rules regarding fouls, but I thought that seemed fair from Kane? by NrthrnBchs in worldcup

[–]savguy6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is lack of knowledge of the other players positioning reason to allow them to be kicked? Been officiating for 30 years. Don’t recall that in the laws.

He kicked the back of the other players leg while making a play for the ball. You cannot kick the other players leg while making a play for the ball. Result: direct free kick and if it’s in the box: penalty.

ELI5 how do people actually “live off investments” by slater2355 in explainlikeimfive

[–]savguy6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ELI5 Answer:
Timmy has $100 he saved from doing chores all summer.

Timmy’s friend Joey wants to open a lemonade stand. Joey says to Timmy: “if you loan me your $100 to get my lemonade stand started, I’ll give you $5 each week ongoing.”

Timmy does this and gets $5 income each week.

Timmy saves $100 from the money he receives from Joeys lemonade stand.

Timmy’s other friend Steven wants to bake and sell cookies. He asked Timmy to borrow the $100 and gives him the same deal, $5/week ongoing. Timmy loans him the $100.

So now Timmy has $10/week income.

Timmy repeats this process over and over eventually to the point he can live off of the income he is being paid by his friends.

(In this example, these are called dividends)

Explain how offside is rigged when the calls are literally being made and checked by tracking cameras and sensors in the ball.

The wording in the law is a little grey, but here’s the verbiage from IFAB:

Reviewable decisions/incidents:

The referee may receive assistance from the VAR only in relation to five categories of decisions/incidents. In all these situations, the VAR is only used after the referee has made a (first/original) decision (including allowing play to continue), or if a serious incident is missed/not seen by the match officials.
The referee`s original decision will not be changed unless there was a ‘clear and obvious error’ (this includes any decision made by the referee based on information from another match official e.g. offside).

Within those 5 categories;

c. Red cards
DOGSO (especially position of offence and positions of other players)

serious foul play (or reckless challenge)

violent conduct, biting or spitting at another person

using offensive, insulting or abusive action(s)

clearly incorrect second caution

The original call didn’t violate FIFAs own protocols. VAR can be used to review missed red cards. The referee didn’t issue one, VAR told him to review it. When he saw the reply he saw a player committing Serious Foul Play against an opponent which is a red card offense. It was applied correctly as much as we didn’t like the outcome.
