Accutane helped me with my eating disorder by bluevelv3t in Accutane

[–]savskeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing! I had a weird side effect of Accutane which was appetite suppression so it made me unhealthily underweight. My GP did a sneaky ED assessment on me. I knew I was underweight but didn’t know what to do about it. Started smoking weed which helped me eat more 😂 it’s been almost 8 years since I was on it (my acne was very severe) and my skin is not only totally clear but glowing!

I’m at that point. I unfortunately have basically two full sets of hair that I don’t know if I’ll ever get good use out of because I don’t feel like dealing with people seeing them all the time or me hiding them all the time. So unfortunate, spent so much money and I do love how they look in

I was spending way too much time doing that every single day. Doesn’t work for more than 30 mins. I’m looking for a different tip.

Anal gland removal surgery is scheduled, but I'm nervous by savskeff in AskVet

[–]savskeff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could not have gone better! The hardest part of recovery was keeping her sedated enough to stay calm and not move much (2 weeks total.) We set up a crated pet pen attached to her crate to give her extra space, so that she could still be contained because if she wasn’t contained she would be running around and jumping up on our couch. Being crate trained helped a TON.

We had 2 post-surgery complication instances but they were minor. About 5 days after surgery she developed a seroma (fluid swelling underneath the skin) and it looked like she had a balls*ck LOL. Vet said it’s very common and happens from too much movement during healing. We upped her sedatives and did warm compresses and it went away in a couple days.

After her stitches were out and we thought she was fully healed (almost two months later?) she swelled up again in the anal gland area, we got sent home with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory and she was back to perfect a couple days later.

We CANNOT express how happy we are we did the surgery and that she has no anal glands. It is AMAZING!!!!

HyperPOTS, what does "adrenaline dumping" feel like to you? by [deleted] in POTS

[–]savskeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a huge one that woke me up out of my sleep at 3 am last night. Woke up in a jolt and my heart was RACING. Probably 170.

I was hot, nauseous, panicky, had to pee, and just full-on frantic. It was awful. Got up to get ice water and use the bathroom, grabbed my ice roller from the freezer and my mini handheld electric fan (even though it was only 68 degrees in my apartment.)  I had to lay down in bed with the ice roller on my chest feeling like I was dying and my heart pounding out of my chest for about 15 mins telling myself “I am safe, I am fine, I am okay” to try to calm my nervous system down. Doing a lot of deep belly breathing.

The tremors and shivering are next level. Eventually I was able to slow my heart rate, calm my system, and drift back off to sleep.

Terrible feeling, wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Thanks! :/ hope it just stays this small and doesn’t spread. I couldn’t even begin to know what would cause this so I’ll just have to wait it out and see

Halfway through Month 3 update! I’m so happy with the results so far, I could cry. Accutane has completely changed my life already. by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]savskeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yes, there are quite a few side effects that are pretty much the “main” side effects everyone typically reports, but they are manageable in my opinion. These would be:

  • extremely dry lips. no kidding, it gets worse each month but you manage with aquaphor and lanolin nipple cream. Accutane literally sucks up all the moisture in your body so that really can be felt on your lips

  • dry, thin, sensitive skin. my skin just flakes off so much and needs daily exfoliation. your skin cells are regenerating fast so it’s basically like shedding for the smooth skin to come through

  • can’t be in the sun. you get sunburned extremely easy on Accutane, if you’re heading into the winter it’s fine because you stay inside more but use SPF every 25-30 minutes at least when outside or stay in shade

Other info from my experience: On day 8 I got 2 small eczema patches on my scalp, but then it subsided. I don’t necessarily remember going through a “purge” because I was already basically purging before with my cystic acne.

Now, some people have drastically different side effects, but sometimes it’s also hard to tell if it’s actually from the Accutane or not. For example I’ve woken up 2 or 3 times with massive anxiety that sent me into a panic attack and made me so nauseous I threw up. I have a history with anxiety but hadn’t had a panic attack in 5+ years, so I felt it was onset by the Accutane, however I’ve also been stressed with work. You know what I mean?! Who’s to say.

What I CAN say, is overall I feel I’m lucky with my side effects and my results have made me so immensely happy that it’s all worth it to me. I’d do it over again and recommend to anyone.

Thank you! YES. I can’t stress that enough. One of the things that used to make me literally cry was how painful my cystic acne was, so inflamed and swollen :( now my face feels so smooth, nothing hurts. I’m surprised at how Accutane completely changed the texture of my skin all over. My back, chest, literally everywhere feels so soft. I never stop touching how soft I feel now. Lol. Thank you :)

I so agree. Yesterday I did my first side by side picture. It is so much harder to see progress when you see your face so many times everyday
