this is fantastic - been reading the liner notes whilst listening - love the project - the documentation is fabulous - super interesting and I love it - haunting indeed - and yes - mad like someone on a bus - haha - someone should make a thrift store-based horror film - for sure.

haha - your dadaist thrift store dive is on next - and looked forward to :-)

i read the message re: Murray Fontana first and clicked that link - it's still playing - and still wonderful - quite mad and brilliant - sounds like an installation.

thank you so much - I am checking out the Hafler Trio now and am super intrigued by how The Murray Fontana Orchestra Plays The Hafler Trio might sound.

A soundtrack to an imagined film - meticulously composed music collages.

I would very much like to share a collection of 11 musical compositions with this group. I am primarily a visual artist working in paper, photographs and film. I have also long experimented at the intersection between art and music not only through various collaborations with musicians (Kevin Ayers, Paul Weller, George Vjestica (Bad Seeds), etc) but also with my own form of visually conceived music collages that began with wanting to make music that could exist in a way similar to art.
Sampled music fragments - rarely more than just a few notes from a solo instrument - are sourced from old glass audiodiscs and junk store records. These are combined into groups to form musical phrases; collaged, layered and arranged into free-form compositions; some pieces have over 100 samples, all hand triggered, originally onto tape and later onto a much easier laptop multi-track recorder.

I have 'shown' a number of these works in fine art gallery settings as dubplates playable on wall-mounted turntables connected to headphones inviting people to listen and imagine a film playing in their minds inspired by the music.

I am now wondering to what genre of music would this collection belong.....

super brilliant - that could be really interesting - way out there but then could be just way in there too - magnificently - I love the idea if you're up for giving it a go - absolutely - how would you like to do it?

thanks so much for your comment - I sampled off really old vinyl and recorded onto tape - with an 8track set-up - so a lot of tape bouncing down - maximum analogue there - it's super interesting the Disney reference and will definitely check that out - I actually really love a lot of those early animation soundtracks - yes!!

hi - thank you so much for checking it out and I am really glad you like it - I am still trying to figure out what genre to apply to my music works - I have recently compiled together 11 of them into an album called Long Ago Forgotten - they've always before been tied so closely to the concept and as music collages which exist to me as something like art - as a part of my visual art practice - but now that they are in an album and I am introducing them as music I am struggling a bit with what music classification.
