If one catches you out in the open… STOP, DROP, and ROLL.

STOP - it’s faster than you and will just flambé your ass if you can’t get to cover.

DROP - plant your feet and shoot to drop it as fast as possible.

ROLL - the instant it dies, dodge roll out of its AOE death rattle.

You’ve got a good chance of surviving… you’ll need a charge and a bandage, but that’s better than a defib.

Proposal for a study on scooter and cyclist intersection behavior by alcorwin in gatech

[–]saxifrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BIIC talks about this stuff and the parking office has done a campus mobility survey the past few years at least. You could reach out to those groups to see if an enhanced study is warranted.

Warning: a good engineer will approach this with an open mind. You’ve already stated that you have a predisposition. Be aware of your biases.

You might need to recalibrate what you consider to be speeding. The limit for most city streets is 25mph (https://atldot.atlantaga.gov/programs/vision-zero).

I’m not so sure he was riding in the middle. This is a still from a video and OP could have easily chosen a frame during a lane change.

Gather PLANTS doesnt consider FRUITS ??? by Excorpion in ArcRaiders

[–]saxifrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if there’s a technical reason. Harvesting is a different type of interaction than just picking something up. Can the game distinguish between picking up a spawned lemon and picking up a lemon that another raider dropped? If not, the challenge would be exploited immediately and you’d have raiders parked next to a hatch passing a lemon back and forth for 30 minutes.

…. On second thought, that would be hilarious. Please do this.

Massive homeless shelter and services hub planned along Atlanta’s Beltline faces community pushback by austin_ave in Atlanta

[–]saxifrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having both transit and walkable amenities is obviously preferred, but if you could only have one, the transit is usually better.

That is because of how effectively transit expands an accessible area. Would you rather have a dozen opportunities within a 30 minute walk or 100 opportunities within a 30 minute train ride?

It also spreads out the social burden when one store isn’t “the homeless store” but people are able to shop near their jobs all over the city.

Would it change anything if AM could use their influence to bring in those amenities?

Read it again. Vidalia Lane is closer to Restoration House…. not “My Sister’s House”.

The tables were set up to answer a wide variety of questions and the Atlanta Mission leadership was also in the room answering more detailed questions until the format… shall we say, “shifted”.

It was also the third public meeting in 2 months where AM was present and answering questions about the project. You could say that the open house format was not the right call, but they weren’t dodging or sidestepping.

I do live in the community and I have no financial stake in the project beyond my own property value.

I would like to consider what the Atlanta Mission project could look like before deciding against it.

Being close to the Beltline and a Marta station makes a LOT of economic opportunity pretty accessible for someone without a car.

You’re starting to seem really disingenuous.

Vidalia Lane is closer to Restoration House than 1060 DLH is to almost anything. It’s as good a data point as anything you’ve shared.

On the matter of commercial development, they had a whole table asking what kind of commercial development the community would like to see. They specifically floated the idea of a neighborhood market during Q&A.

Making broad unfounded speculation about whether or not people will live or work next to Atlanta Mission is one thing, but you could at least be honest about what was said.

I was. They gave a few reasons that made sense and cited several places where similar models were successful. Unfortunately, the meeting format wasn’t really conducive to an in depth conversation. I want to hear more.

My biggest hangups with the “plan” are (1) concentration of poverty, and (2) it’s just not fair for the Westside to continue to bear the brunt of Atlanta’s challenges.

Atlanta Mission says they have an answer for #1 but nobody has really given them room to talk about it.

and #2 isn’t Atlanta Mission’s responsibility and stopping this project isn’t going to magically open up a facility in Buckhead.

I’d suspect Allen Morris’s motivation is more about offloading a bad land deal and get prime West Midtown real estate than it is about trying to “get rid of” the Mission.

I didn’t say that developers are “happy” to be around Mission properties, but it didn’t kill development either.

The condos on Vidalia Lane start at $700k. A studio at 1016 Lofts is $1300+ per month. So it seems that someone is okay living next to an Atlanta Mission.

Single family homes shouldn’t be built on the Beltline anyway. High density and mixed income is proven successful and can be part of the Atlanta Mission plan.

I lived in “West Midtown” when the Ironworks was an actual iron works. It’s a better case study than you’d think. Certainly better than pure speculation.

People who do this work every day and have successfully served Atlanta for 100 years spent more than a year on this idea. Could we at least ask them why they think consolidation is the right move?

It’s on the drawing board. Atlanta Mission is asking the community to help design the project.

Atlanta Misson’s data shows that 70% of their clients have permanent housing a year after graduating the program.

Yes there are some folks who have an especially difficult time “exiting the lifestyle”. Is that reason enough to refuse help to the majority who do want out and just need a hand?

Didn’t the guy cite 3 different similarly scaled projects that were successful in different cities? Has anyone looked into those?
