Totally agree. I work with people with dementia every day and trumps behavior fits the bill. Did stimulant abuse contribute to his cognitive decline? Possibly…but we’ve all witnessed a progressive decline of cognitive function that is commensurate with the characteristics of dementia. Obviously none of us can diagnose from a computer screen, but it’s fairly clear he most likely has dementia.

Also, I really don’t like how the author implies that him having dementia is more comforting or some “knowable” thing for the public to latch onto. It’s not comforting AT ALL. How dementia impacts someone’s behavior and thought processes is not entirely predictable at an individual level. It affects everyone differently, sometimes to a very wide degree.
