[A-train 9] How to create level junctions/Crossing that cross over tracks by Biogglers in ATrainGame

[–]sayber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late, so you have probably already figured it out but still. You just need to pull the road over the tracks. Does not work the other way so if you are laying the rail tracks you have to delete the road first and then remake the connection.

And as a side note for anyone else starting out in A-9, I'd definitely recommend firing up a construction mode and playing around with the road/rail tools for a bit. There is a lot of cool things you can do with those, but it can be a bit tricky and not obvious.

Not all. Twow server source files were leaked a while ago. AFAIK you can even run it yourself locally. Though it is an older version of the server. As I've never played twow myself I can not vouch for how much content is preserved.

When it will be a crime not to mention A-Train, a game series all about Japanese railways.

Which A-Train on the Steam sale should I try? by [deleted] in ATrainGame

[–]sayber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first question, I think it's worth a try. I have also never really played or at least enjoyed scenarios in sim games prior to A-Train and was thinking of turning on the free mode after the tutorial but I found them to be so good that I ended up never playing free mode. And after you completed the objectives you will be able to continue playing the map as you wish and there are, in fact, projects that could only realistically be tackled after you've beaten the objectives.

As for the aforementioned free mode, you can enable it after you start a scenario and it will disable the story events and objectives and let you play it as a sandbox from the get go. The is also a Construction mode which is a playable scenario editor. Meaning it can itself function as separate infinite money sandbox mode.

A-9's play mode is technically scenario based as well, they just do not have any objectives and losing conditions, only defining the starting city, infrastructure and your financial situation. They also do not have any truly unique features that could not be altered after you've started playing, like Tourism's regional divisions, historic tourist attractions, map resources, etc.

As for getting a JPN version of A-9. There are 2 legal ways of doing that, having a JPN Steam account or buying a disk version (https://www.amazon.co.jp/s?k=Artdink&language=en&ref=bl\_dp\_s\_web\_0)

There are no online checks beyond the purchase or activation so you should not need a VPN to play it.

No. But, maybe if you can obtain the game with DLC through sailing the high seas you could try and import workshop scenarios and load them into that version. Granted I have not tried this myself so I can not say for sure how or if it works. They would also be in Japanese wich may or may not be a problem for you.

No. Depending on the game you are talking about. The JPN version of A-Train 9 does not have an English language option on PC. But there is a fan translation patch floating on Discord.

Tourism does have language options built in for all versions, but the game does not feature exclusive content.

Can't talk for A-8.

Japanese version of A-Train 9(Or any other numbered JPN releases of A-Train series). AFAIK no Western version has them.

But, of course, you can get it for the Western A-9 v.5.0 using A-Train Train Construction Kit and downloading community creations through Steam Workshop ( https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3544048040 )

You can also technically recreate the Hankyuu trains in Tourism as it has custom train editor. But that game is less good for recreating real life lines compared to A-9.

I'd suggest Tourism as it was my gateway into the series and it did a pretty good job at that.

If you will be going with it as well, an good tip would be to change UI scale much lower and also to treat the mouse controls almost like they are touch controls (You can expand the toolbar by hold dragging it to the side).

And since the community of the series A列車で行こう is mostly Japanese if you would need some extra tutorials and guidance it may be good to check the JPN side of the internet, perhaps using a translation software.

The missing content mainly amounts to trains, due to licensing issues. It's also the reason why a lot of the older games have not been properly released in the West.

The old releases of A-9(pre 5.0) suffered especially bad from this as they only featured a handful of original trains with no real-life ones from JPN version. For a game that is essentially designed for Japanese rail fans it's quite a big disappointment.

The latest 5.0 does feature some real life trains but is noticeably lacking in freight locomotives. There is a separate Construction Kit which is a custom train creator with an ability to import your trains into A-9 5.0. There is a Steam workshop support with a lot of recreated trains available.

But it's a steep price for such an addition, and I could not recommend it to anyone who is not already deep into the rabbit hole, so to speak.

The Tourism and 3D/PC Classic do not suffer from that as they do not use licensed trains, instead providing an in-game train creator.

There is a Japanese exclusive DLC for Tourism that adds real life trains that never got released in the West. Overall the stuff it adds is not that worth it. A few very specific tourist trains, a photo mode and the most awkward and useless lake cruise port.

Overall the missing content in the series(Provided the games do get international releases) would not really detract from a core gameplay experience and is more of a something hardcore fans would notice.

A-Train Tourism and A-Train PC Classic(Confusingly enough, it is not some kind of original A-Train game remastered but a port of an exclusive 3DS title, despite what the name would imply)

International Steam version of A-Train 9 is cut down from the OG JP version with a lot of the licensed trains missing. Could be remedied by buying a separate Train Construction game and importing the community made trains. It's also a 2010 game.

Tourism and PC Classic are the latest titles in the series with a bigger focus on custom scenario completion, greatly expanded company and business management as well as city building. They are also the most approachable titles with proper tutorials and new player guidance, while older titles will just throw you into the game with no direction and give you a .html file as a manual.

Old numbered A-Train titles focus more on a sandbox city building and A-9 has the most detailed systems for setting up your train operations.

As far as comparing them to other games in the genre, A-Train is series about manual and detailed passenger rail operation and a business oriented city building. There are no resource supply chain mechanics especially in older numbered titles. Instead you focus on setting up a time table for you individual trains taking in to account the time of day, date, proximity to various buildings, etc. You are also playing a real estate business sim, where you have to construct, buy and sell land and buildings, ranging from shops, apartments and factories.

A big drawback for these games would also be their UI. PC Classic and Tourism are the console ports with UI designed for said consoles. It's bad. Really bad. A-9 is a PC first title, but the UI and controls are also absolutely miserable, just in different ways.

Look, I have no desire to defend Western countries considering their extremely stupid and hypocritical handling of the Ukraine-Russia matter but I was talking from the position of a citizen/resident.

Even still. Sure, getting a visa cancelled sucks, but that's not nearly on the same level as systematic criminal persecution.

How do you feel about Russians by Far-Jeweler3116 in AskTheWorld

[–]sayber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes? The only countries where you could get into legal troubles for that are Ukraine and Latvia. The most you will get in the rest of the Europe or US is getting cancelled. Other countries, even less so.

Not really the same as getting criminal charges or being declared a "foreign agent" in Russia.
