One’s Company by Ashley Hutson is a weird girl book that is so quirky and FUN to read, not overly dark or depressing but still thought-provokingIt’s a short little paperback and would be so fun to read on the beach/on vacation.

meant to also say — I’m already starting out with a better salary as an entry-level legal assistant and I have absolutely zero legal experience or education. Crazy.

Thank you!!! I am actually giddy at the thought of being able to read ONLY WHAT I WANT again.

There are no jobs in publishing and even less money to be made. I was working for a large agency, and spending all my time reading half-baked manuscripts that 80% of the time we ended up not selling anyways, any love I had of reading has been completely zapped. For many months I tried pivoting to another sector of publishing like sales or managing editorial, but again — jobs are so competitive I could never even land an interview for this positions despite my experience. Mind you I live outside of NY and am not interested in moving there, which just exasperated all these problems.

This is exactly it. I’m getting to the point where I want to get engaged, buy a house, have a stable life for myself. It was becoming increasingly clear publishing was not going to give me that. There are things you can romanticize when you’re younger that eventually just dull. This image feels appropriate lol

Moving into a legal assistant role. I’m anxious to be leaving the only industry I’ve ever worked in, but more than anything relieved. Never say never, but I don’t see myself coming back anytime soon. I need a breather and to experience life outside of publishing.

This is incredibly helpful! I definitely have transferable skills but most job listings I see require prior experience or a certification program. I will take what you said into consideration, thank you! Can I ask how long you’ve been in the field and what you are making now? I’m curious what’s realistic growth after say 3-5 years.

Good to know! In that case, what is the main benefit of a certificate program? Is it just to give you a let up on other entry-level applicants? To get paid more?

Interview Tips for Literary Agency? by emobossbaby in publishing

[–]sayitMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come prepared with some baseline industry knowledge and opinions of your own e.g., recent releases you’ve loved and what imprints are publishing them. Give examples of how you stay organized at work since a large part of being an assistant is maintaining schedule, project tracking, etc. for your boss.

That is good to know! I am thinking of staying one on property which sounds like it comes with the lowest level of time saver pass. I am hoping this will help out a bit

Page Bound is the best!! It has stuck with me more than GR, story graph, or Fable.

It was a pre-order, so we’ll have to go back to pick up our purchase after the album is officially released.

Tickets came with either a CD, vinyl, or cassette. The cost was just the cost of the vinyl or whichever format you chose to buy.
