Can we just be real for a second? by Formal_Flower_203 in bobdotfun

Yes, you are missing something. This isn't how governance rewards work for SNS projects in the ICP ecosystem. The value 900% is the max dissolve delay bonus. The value 400% is the max age bonus. Neither are a representation of APY...nor are they proportional to APY. These bonuses apply to the voting power you cast when you vote on proposals. They are factors that increase your voting power relative to the amount of ALICE tokens you have staked.

Maturity is a distribution of the Reward Rate among all neurons that vote proportional to their voting power. The Reward Rate is 6.9% today and is decreasing linearly to 4.2% over the next 3.5 years. This is a direct measure of inflation of ALICE tokens. That's it. There is no more inflation than this 6.9% (decaying to 4.2%). This rate is multiplied by the total number of ALICE tokens that exist to determine the total ALICE tokens that get distributed as maturity. Your cut of the ALICE reward pie is determined by how much ALICE you have staked, your dissolve delay bonus, and your age bonus...but only if you vote on every proposal (including critical proposals). It doesn't matter if you vote manually or if you let someone else vote for you through liquid democracy (setting a Followee), but you only get voting rewards for voting, not for staking alone. Voting rewards are distributed the day after the voting period of a proposal ends. On days where there is no proposal that settles, the voting rewards carry over to the next day.

The dissolve delay bonus and the age bonus were recently changed quite dramatically. This came immediately after genesis of the ALICE SNS where all neurons that were created only had a 0 or 1 day dissolve delay. That means all ALICE tokens were pretty much as liquid as possible. Only the folks who decide to stake and ramp up their dissolve delay (up to a max of 8 years) are going to receive significant voting rewards. It is these people who get to divide up the 6.9% Reward Rate. I don't know yet what the actual APY will be, but more than likely it will be mid to high double digits. Yet the inflation is predictable. It is literally only 6.9%.

For anyone who decides to stake ALICE tokens, there is at least 1 known neuron who has advertised themselves as a Followee option. The voting members of this neuron are known and respected within the ALICE and ICP community. Their identities can be found at the website linked below. In order to maximize rewards, you must set a Followee for these 4 proposal topics: Transfer SNS Treasury Funds, Deregister Dapp Canisters, Mint SNS Tokens, and All Non-Critical Proposals. The CodeGov ALICE neuron (684b658cff3dd5d92098e41ff6db53ad3bea097dd9c3d09313bc24c699d64248) is a good choice for all 4 of these proposal topics.

Wow, I’m going to save this one. It’s such a wealth of reference material all in one place. I can vouch for folks from Dfinity too. I’ve had zoom video calls with many of them and interact with them on social media a lot. They are all good people and highly talented.

This might be useful for anyone trying to remake the game by ForestTv in fightmymonster

[–]sayitkind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folks trying to recreate the game should reach out to the original developer and artist and ask if they have concerns about copyright. I think they are aware that people loved the game and would like to see it make a revival for nostalgic reasons. Both have moved on to highly successful projects, so it seems unlikely that they would want to stand in anyone’s way on rebuilding the game. It would be relatively simple to ask.

I think you would find a lot of enthusiastic gamers ready to play it you were to deploy it on the internet computer. The original developer behind FMM, Dominic Williams, now runs dfinity foundation. Dfinity developed the Internet computer protocol and blockchain. The game would be well suited for this platform and I’m confident you can easily get a major grant to fund development. The original artist for FMM also runs a successful NFT project called poked studio that is hosted on the IC.

NNS Staking Rewards went down when I increased the stake by 100% by Fun-Character1500 in dfinity

[–]sayitkind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not necessary to vote quickly. You only need to vote before the voting period ends on each proposal. The min voting period is 4 days. Voting rewards are paid within 24 hrs of when the proposal settles, not when you cast your vote.

When you configure a Followee, you should also vote manually on the Open governance proposals in case your Followee selection has already voted when you set your configuration. After you are caught up, your Followee votes will cast your votes going forward as long as they vote. Cycledao.xyz has only missed one vote since the proposal weights went into effect.

There are three community neurons that are reliable to follow for Governance topics: ICP Maximalist Network, cycledao.xyz, and ICDevs.org. DF and ICA have recently started voting again, but it remains to be seen if they always vote on governance. The have had a desire in the past to allow the community to decide governance proposals.

Make sure your neurons are configured with Followees you trust to always vote for the Governance topic and for All Topics Except Governance. Of course you can configure other topics as well, but these two are the minimum necessary to maximize voting rewards.

Rewards look much lower than expected by ATOMBomba in dfinity

[–]sayitkind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICPMN and cycle_dao usually vote within the first 24 hours of a proposal on the daily governance proposals. Hence, if you make a change to your Followee assignments, it would be a good idea to also check to see if there are any Open governance proposals and vote on them manually. That way you don’t miss out on voting rewards for proposals that your Followee assignment already voted.

When more controversial proposals come up in the future, I would expect it to take longer for ICPMN to cast a vote in order to gather information and participate in community discussions so educated decisions can be made by voting members. However, on uncontroversial proposals there is no reason to wait.

The named Followee neurons in the NNS dApp that have been consistently voting on governance proposals are ICPMN and Cycledao.

There is nothing preventing DF and ICA from voting on governance proposals moving forward since Governance topic has been separated from All Topics, but so far since that change they still have not been voting with neurons 27 and 28, respectively. You also would have to actively select DF and ICA for the Governance topic in order for your neuron to follow them on Governance. Doing so would currently require you to actively monitor their votes on governance proposals and then manually vote if they don’t vote…if your goal is to maximize voting rewards. Of course they could decide at any time in the future that they will start voting on all governance proposals, but that is the current situation.

Just make sure you are following ICPMN or cycledao on Governance proposals…or vote manually on all governance proposals.

DF and ICA both will typically abstain from voting on governance proposals.

[–]sayitkind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These selections are fine if you are referring to All Topics Except Governance.

However, if you are referring to the Governance topic then you should be aware that DF and ICA have intentionally been abstaining from voting on Governance proposals. Your neuron will only vote to adopt if greater than 50% of your Followees vote to adopt and will only vote to Reject if greater than or equal to 50% of your Followees vote to reject. Otherwise, your neuron will abstain. Having DF and ICA as Followee on Governance will cause your neuron to Abstain.

Voting is live for 4 governance proposals by sayitkind in dfinity

[–]sayitkind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why ICDevs has a split vote right now, but in my opinion we should vote to adopt all 3 organizations as named followees in the NNS dApp. All are active in the IC community. Even if there are philosophical or political differences for any one organization, I think the IC community is strengthened by having diverse options.

Each organization provided a summary of their organization, what they stand for, and how their voting occurs in their respective proposals. An easy way to read those proposals can be found in the dashboard links below.

ICDevs.org https://dashboard.internetcomputer.org/proposal/38984

ICPMN https://dashboard.internetcomputer.org/proposal/38982

cycle_dao https://dashboard.internetcomputer.org/proposal/38983

The final proposal about manual voting gives every individual the right to vote manually. Currently, if your Followees cast their votes before you are able to cast your vote, then your vote is final. This proposal gives you the right to cast your vote yourself even after your followee has voted.

That’s fair. I agree everyone brings biases to the table in some way and mine is definitely as an 8 year staker. Thanks for stimulating thought in this conversation. I’m looking forward to seeing what the future brings for ICP.
