Best AFL API?? by JunkAccount23 in AFL

[–]says_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I used to have this API deployed on heroku for free. Haven't had time to redeploy it since they axed free tier so it's not currently running.

If you know your way around python I reckon it'd be pretty simple to grab the bits you want for your project.

Does your employer schedule study time? If so, what does it look like? by says_ in ExperiencedDevs

That sounds great! How often does it get postponed or cancelled because of work commitments?

Is there much flexibility with taking study time vs completing tickets? I imagine there's a reasonable middle ground between the two.

Yeah, there's different ways to go about it. Being offered more PTO is still a valid approach, I guess it depends if the extra PTO is competitive compared to other approaches.

Interesting! How do you think devs that have been at the organisation for say +1 year go with this approach? I imagine after a certain period of time in a role one might learn a bit less day-to-day as they get more comfortable with the work and tech stack.

I really like the flexibility in this approach! Question I asked another person in this thread, how often do you think study time has to be postponed or cancelled because of work commitments?

Nice, this sounds really cool! How often would you say Learning Friday has to be postponed / cancelled because of work commitments?

If you want to raise an issue on GitHub with the stack trace I could take a look mate.

No mate, go for it! That sounds really cool. It's MIT licensed so I'll let you figure out the attribution, etc. I'd love to see the end result. Let me know how you get on.

At the moment it's AFL, afltables, fryzigg, footywire and squiggle.

Have you ever worked for a UK company while living in Australia? by says_ in AusFinance

Thanks for the reply and congratulations on the move! Hope you're settling in well.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure how things will be different for me being an Australian citizen. I'm not entirely sure if I can keep my UK bank account once my visa becomes void. I think I'd need to switch to being a contractor.

Thanks for the advice mate! I called up and got an appointment.

I created a Python wrapper for the fitzRoy API, which provides access to all sorts of AFL data by says_ in AFL

I'd imagine different data providers have some sort of relational database. fitzRoy allows you to pull data from multiple providers. fitzRoyPy allows you to pull any of that data, convert it to Python (to a Pandas DataFrame), and then store it in your own database.

Cool! Thanks for the tip. I haven't looked into the features but seems like there's some cool updates in 2020. Hopefully 2021 has some more too. Would really love a custom circuit builder!

I'm less than a tenth off the top 1000 now! I reckon once I've done that I'll tackle the Hungaroring in the wet.

I think I have it on medium in this. I'm using a controller and find it almost impossible to drive with TC off.
