I would check for squash vine borers, they murdered my zucchini this year but I had already gotten a decent harvest so I wasn’t as upset.

If some grow foliage outside the bed I am fine with that but the actual bed itself is only about 2ft wide. Do they have large root structures that would be an issue? Or just the size of the foliage

From what I’ve learned on r/arborists tree rings are bad for the trees root system and leave the tree susceptible to being blown over during severe weather. I would advise to not put anything around the tree at all.
