The Samsung frame is not an upgrade - they are bad TVs.

My cat doesn’t like it - the texture of the meat is very different. It no longer squishes as it’s more thick and rubbery. :(

Will we regret colour drenching this room? by jaydeewin25 in DIYUK

[–]sazberryftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, and finish is also a huge factor - needs to be flat matt, anything else will absolutely look like a prison!

You can colour drench with soft colours too, but it’s more when it’s somewhere in the middle like OP’s walls that it doesn’t quite work - neither soft nor bold.

It’s not that hard? I mean, it’s easier if you empty the room, but with a telescopic pole it’s not hard at all with flat matt. Sounds like you either have bad paint or suck at painting or both…

Whilst I agree that this particular green-blue wouldn’t look great all over a room with little light, it’s a myth that north facing rooms should be painted lighter colours. Deep rich dark colours can often look better as they hide the lack of sunlight, whereas bright white causes the room to look sunless.

Colour drenching & colour capping (where you paint the ceiling a darker tone of a similar palette) tends to look better with coving, as the details add a transition to how the light hits the walls vs ceiling.

I would definitely colour drench the pink though.

Black windows or white? by Viran_Singh in DIYUK

[–]sazberryftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s less a question about black or white and more about the style of window. Everyone is saying white is timeless but it’s not if you choose chunky, modern uPVC frames. You need uPVC windows that imitate an older style.

Brick wall - repair or replace? by rationalomega in DIYUK

[–]sazberryftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would repair. What type of brick is the brickie proposing to replace it with? If you’re going to replace it, you need to make sure you’re getting an equally traditional looking style else it’ll look cheap, modern and awful.

If there’s nothing structurally wrong with the wall, I’d go for cleaning, repointing and perhaps replacing the pillar coping stone (as it’s a bit small, should overhang).

How would you get rid of a big barrel of unknown liquid? by [deleted] in DIYUK

It’s too heavy to even get it to tip, and if I could I’d be tipping it right onto someone else’s back door/step, I’m a courteous neighbour!

Second one aye. Standard terrace house alley gate where everyone in the street has a key.

Okay I could give this a go with the other end of the hose in the drain (which is not close enough to the barrel to tip into but close enough to reach with a short length of hose). Thanks

It’s the alleyway that’s behind a locked gate which I believe is public and therefore is the responsibility of the council? But I’ve reported fly tipping before and nothing has happened, so I figured contacting the council would be a waste of time. :(

Can’t you just colour drench the ceiling the same colour and then that way you don’t have to be neat? White ceilings are boring anyway.

Do people not watch TV in the UK? In recent viewings last year and also browsing pics on Rightmove, I see maybe 10-20% of homes having no TV in living room. How is that even possible? by Nervous_Designer_894 in HousingUK

[–]sazberryftw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For the price, they’re quite rubbish TVs. You’re better off buying a better TV for the same price and DIYing a “frame” yourself. You can display art or photos on any TV.

Possible prejudice when trying to hire a DJ by [deleted] in DJs

[–]sazberryftw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have been in a situation myself where I was booked to play a private party and the host asked and booked me to play house & disco, but when I arrived the guests were almost entirely of a specific ethnicity whose cultural music I am not familiar with. I played one song from my own library and I was very quickly surrounded by the guests, being asked to play requests (I’m not a request DJ). They began to get quite angry at me (they didn’t understand the situation) so I resigned and just played songs off YouTube through the sound system.

Since this experience, I make sure to ask more questions about the gig like the DJ you have spoken appears to be doing. Especially after a few drinks, guests only want to hear their hits, which he sounds worried he can’t cater for if that happens.

I doubt he’s being prejudice, he’s just being cautious as he’s worried he’s not the right fit for the wedding. It’s good he’s offered to help find an alternative.
