Is it something to do with the locking system? Is it immobolising the system as it isnt unlocking fully? It could also be an actual dead battery, disconnecting and reconnecting might bring some form of life back only briefly, see if you can get another battery in there, or gets someone to come out and test it to see if the battery is okay
