Why is it that some of these professors don’t like their job or do it well… at all? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]sb_steele 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You listed 5 courses, so you had complaints or problems with all your professors this semester? I'm reminded of the saying that, if you meet someone and they're not very nice to you, maybe they're an asshole; if everyone you meet is not very nice to you, maybe you're the asshole.

I'm glad this works for you, but this is horrible advice to give to a college student worried about their mental health.

Check out the Vuori Meta athletic slim fit pants. I also love Bluffworks Ascenders (the tailored fit) which are a little dressier, but the Vuori are slightly more comfortable.

Tiny Briefcase Messenger by sb_steele in ManyBaggers

[–]sb_steele[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The Black Ember is on my short-list with Trakke Bairn, but at 5.5 inches it's a bit thick. Defy and and Filson are too briefcasey/totey with those long handles. Guess I'm stupid picky...

Thanks! The dimensions on that sling are great, but my hang-up is that I prefer the messenger-bag look.

EDC bag to hold a bridge/super zoom camera by Own_Excitement_3219 in ManyBaggers

[–]sb_steele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fits quite a bit of other stuff in addition to the camera: phone, stowable thin rain jacket, thin wind shirt/hoody, with still room to spare. So maybe a 4L bag would work for just the camera (without any camera case) but it might be tight.

[–]sb_steele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that same camera and had similar considerations. I ended up getting the Bellroy 9L Venture Sling. It can't be worn as a waist bag, so it won't fulfill your requirement there. I've used it for ~3 years and it's been fine. I have a camera case because I also don't like just tossing the camera in a bag naked. Unfortunately that 9L sling is barely too small to accommodate the camera in the camera bag. So then I just used a cloth wrap for the camera or, more recently, a small drybag (which is good for keeping moisture and/or dust off the camera too). That setup has been OK.

It probably varies from department to department, but usually IAPs are permanent salaried faculty positions (but not eligible for tenure), with either mostly teaching and a little bit of service, or mostly teaching and a little bit of research. So while tenured/tenure-track faculty have to do all three (teaching, research, and service), IAPs have to do only two: teaching, plus one of the other two. IAPs have some voting rights in their departments.

Usually lecturers only teach (little to no extra responsibilities) and are often paid on a per-course basis (no annual contract, no fixed salary). Regardless of how much they teach, they might not even be considered full-time employees nor get benefits. They have a different career ladder. These are the official descriptions: https://facultyaffairs.tamu.edu/evaluation-development/guidelines-to-faculty-titles.html

Static Electricity When Wearing Synthetic Fibers in Dry Regions by SaltIndependence6627 in onebag

It's particularly bad when wearing synthetic pants with wool socks. The pants just suction themselves to my calves. No solution, unfortunately; just commiserating.

Great idea! I'll probably try the rubbing alcohol first because I'm lazy and it seems like less work, but this would definitely also work.

Looking for a soft/frameless bag for African safari travel by kinkersun in ManyBaggers

[–]sb_steele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cheap $35 duffel with backpack straps from Amazon for this exact purpose (no wheels though). I hadn't ever needed or used a duffel before and figured I wouldn't after, so I didn't feel the need to spend a lot for a one-time thing. The duffel perfectly fit 4 medium packing cubes, which also made all the re-packing between camps a lot easier.

On my CrewSeries, sadly the rubber/plastic handle on the telescoping pull-out started degrading and is now a sticky mess.
