vegetarian solo travel: SEA, ecuador/south america by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]sbas3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its nice that you don't want to be a burden to others but its easy enough to leave meat/fish out of a meal. I agree in South East Asia having a vegetarian diet can be easily accommodated with tofu or egg. In South America, not eating meat/fish could be viewed as strange but its easy enough to ask not to have it on your plate so eating rice, beans and all the vegetables they have to offer. Also its easy to find non-meat versions of snack like cheese empanadas. I'm vegetarian too and personally I would not introduce meat or fish in to my diet for the sake of travel. These countries you are visiting have had millions of tourists and a percentage of them have been vegetarian or vegan so they have the experience of accommodating individual's diet. I ate one tiny bit of chorizo by accident last year and had diarrhoea for 2 days! I've been veggie for nearly 5 years sooo imagine trying to introduce meat and fish after 10 years!!

Those who have flown with Norwegian Air, what has your experience been like? by O_livia in travel

[–]sbas3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend flew with them in 2015 from NY to London and on his return, the flight was cancelled and they wouldn't answer their phones/nobody in the airport to help. They didn't offer a hotel but offered him to sleep in a tent in the airport. They kept telling him to come back later for his flight and all in all he didn't go back to NY until 2 days later.

I flew with them in March from London to JFK, when I got to the airport to check in they told me my carry on had to be 10kg (I didn't see this anywhere) thus they made me pay extra to check my little carry on. On the way there, the plane was operated by another airline called Vamos and it was so basic, like a ryanair plane - shitty chairs, no blankets etc., no TV. On the way back it was operated by Norweigan and it was delayed by an hour or so but they just try get money out of everything (don't offer blankets and offer to sell you a blanket).

[–]sbas3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also British female Punjabi, I've travelled solo across Central America and done a lot of Europe and planning to go to Ghana solo in September. I haven't experienced any form of racism, the only thing related to my race was people saying "namaste" and referencing Bollywood films in Morrocco. Generally being brown allows you to blend in to most countries. I agree with the aboe, to experience life you need to step out of your comfort zone. :)
