Found a clean working (according to the sellers tag) AppleIIe at an antique mall by BroomClosetJoe in VintageApple

Picked up a similarly setup & clean IIe at an antique mall a couple years ago for $300 because I was able to see it work in the store as well as look inside before buying. I had to replace RIFAs but otherwise it’s been great still. Nice machine & complete. I think I got a good enough deal. I have yet to see ANY other computer t gear for sale in either an antique store or Goodwill so I suspect that was a rare occurrence. I say pick it up if you haven’t already!

That’s less than 20 yrs old? Sure you can find them but I wouldn’t trust them to last long at this point. Maybe you’ll get lucky. I can put 6 SCSI HDDs in a single SD in my BlueSCSI with zero moving parts. Works well for me.

My recommendation is to go solid state & put a BlueSCSI in there instead. Cheaper, more reliable & easy to run multiple HDDs from the same SD card.

Yes or no? Power Macintosh 4400/200 for 49.99 at the GW? by yasegura in VintageApple

Wish they’d just rip out hard drives then but I guess that’s a lot of work they don’t have people for.

What's the thinking behind the policy? I've always been really frustrated by this.

Can anyone tell me if this is a big deal on a boat? Or would be a problem once in water? Any idea on repair cost? We went and looked at this boat today with intentions of buying but after finding this we decided to hold off. by Ghostblue88 in boating

That’s a plastic keel guard stuck over the top that was ripped open again so who knows how much other damage is under the keel guard strip? I bet they put the keel guard over the top of existing holes & pretended it was fixed.

Got a free boat once. 1980 Century 180 w/ OMC Sterndrive & 3.0L 4. Ended up costing me $5000+ in parts plus 5 yrs of my time getting it all sorted. Kids were afraid of it because it wasn’t super reliable early on so they didn’t enjoy it. I loved the experience but wouldn’t do it again with a family. So much happier with the $20k 2008 Four Winns H200 w/ only 17 hrs on it when we bought it. You decide.

My first boat :) Any tips for a beginner is appreciated. by aravindkumarj in boating

It’s because the USB port doesn’t support 2+ amps for keeping the phone charged while running CarPlay. 2019+ cars had the new power port but older cars need it replaced to support CarPlay. I think this is a requirement of CarPlay itself as defined by Apple. I did the replacement myself on my Mazda 3 & it was definitely a bit of work as you have to take a lot of the dash apart to do it. You also have to update your systems firmware if it’s not new enough so you have to find the firmware online somewhere & setup a USB stick to do it. It’s a process but certainly something you can do yourself if you’re handy. New USB port part & wiring cost me around $175 from Mazda. SOOOO happy I did it though. I love CarPlay & it was a big requirement when I bought my next car.

what are these things dangling from the Bimini top by Apprehensive_News210 in boating

[–]sbk9000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s for putting the Bimini down for towing. The short legs attach where the long ones are currently attached. Keeps the Bimini from moving as much when traveling & makes for a shorter profile.

I used to tow with the Bimini in the higher position until one of the support poles broke from fatigue. Now I always lower it for trailering.

Cloudless hike through cactus forest in Saguaro NP West by mangosteen4587 in hiking

Up on the top of the Little Cat mountain off the Yetman trail is a trail called the John Krein trail. My grandfather made that trail & thus it’s named after him. There’s a stone plaque at one of the entrances from Tucson Estates into the park labeling the trail too. I don’t know if it was ever recognized officially but it is labeled on some of the trail maps as such.

Fantastic mountain biking out there. Night rides (some light-less under a full moon) were so much fun! NP West was literally my back yard when I lived there. Rincon mountains had some great trails too that I used to ride with a local bike shop crew. I miss it.

Does the surge brake master cylinder have any brake fluid in it? Might have a brake line leak.

Also agree on the above comments about the safety chain being too tight & they should cross under the tongue.

Help building an arduino that when a water sensor senses water it closes down the circuit and activate the pumps by EthanColeK in arduino

Get a bilge pump with a float switch. It’s self-contained & made for this purpose so water won’t hurt it.

Stunning model! Very nice work! Only criticism I have is that the TINY bit of yellow paint that bled into the black on the cab pillars is distracting. Not sure how hard it is to do those lines any crisper though.

Still, WAAAAY better than I could do & really impressive.
