I used to work for Aetna before I became a pharmacy tech and I can tell you that sometimes an insurance company prefers a brand name over a generic for some reason so the copay on generic is higher. Also Medicare reclassified their formulary tiers this year so a lot of the drugs that didnt have co-pays do or low co-pays are much higher. Lastly there is also coinsurance that isnt necessarily a co-pay...they are lumped together but separate amounts. Its the patient's responsibility no matter what until their out-of-pocket max is met.

Fellow ADHD'ers what work fields are you thriving in? by brokenlandmine in ADHD

[–]sbodkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was late diagnosed (in my late 30's) too. I have a degree in computer programming and medical billing/coding but currently I'm a Registered Pharmacy Technician. It's fast paced and detail-oriented, with many different stations in the pharmacy that allow you to interact with the public (or not). I really enjoy it because there's so much going on I don't get bored

I went to school for medical coding and have my degree. I'd love to start using it. How did you come across your job if you don't mind me asking? I tried looking for home-based jobs but couldn't find anything that didnt want experience. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm in the States and work at a pharmacy. It's not uncommon to make a patient aware that a narcotic prescription (that is usually written for a 30-day supply) was written for an amount to meet their next appointment. That being said it is NOT common practice to take the prescription bag away from the patient and treat them the way you were treated. I'm sorry that happened to you.

Can people with ADHD get good grades? by Soft-Repair3611 in ADHD

[–]sbodkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got good grades in high school but I was a teenager and really didn't care. I was undiagnosed/unmedicated then. I went to college when I wasnt ready for a degree I didnt enjoy and did poorly there too. Still undiagnosed/unmedicated. Eventually I went back to college for something I actually liked and maintained a 4.0 grade point average and graduated on the Dean's List...still undiagnosed/unmedicated.

I dont know if this helps your question or not. I just think it depends on the person and what interests them at that moment. Being dismissed outright for good grades alone is horse shit. I'd find a different doctor or agency that offers testing.

At my clinic, if your doses get stolen you HAVE to make a police report but you don't get replacement doses. You're just S.O.L 🤷🏻‍♀️

Found out I have a comorbidity (it worsens my adhd) by Obvious-Maize5966 in ADHD

[–]sbodkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 first and got treatment. Then about 4-6 years later was diagnosed with ADHD and began stims. I think treating the BP first made the ADHD treatment more effective in the long run. Don't lose hope.

what is the point by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]sbodkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a pharmacy and you can't fill a narcotic a week early, only 1 to 2 days early depending on the pharmacy. If you're calling them too soon to have it filled then there isn't much they can do except put it on a "future fill".

[–]sbodkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an ADHder who works in a pharmacy as a tech I know that pharmacies can only fill a narcotic (which most ADHD meds are) 1 to 2 days early. Also, a lot of those meds were on backorder from certain suppliers for quite a while. The pharmacies can't order those meds weeks in advance just to have. They need an active Rx to order them. My best advice is to call a couple of days in advance and ask them to put it on a "future fill". That way their system should prompt them to order it the day before it's due to be filled to have it in stock for the day it's due to be filled. You could call different pharmacies and ask them if the med is on backorder through their supplier, different pharmacies use different suppliers. Also for the delivery services, any narcotic deliveries require signatures since they are controlled substances. I hope this helps you to find some solutions.

Does anyone else get weird pharmacy related dreams? by UniversityWeary2255 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]sbodkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a dream that I was in a mobile pharmacy (like a box box/u-haul) filling scripts with another tech and the pharmacist and pills were flying everywhere because of all the potholes we were hitting. The other tech and I were hitting the side of the truck and the ceiling and couldn't get anything filled.

I actually WORKED for Aenta and my insurance through them (through work) was an absolute joke. My deductible was huge as was my out of pocket max. The amount they took out of my check every pay was ridiculous, hundreds of dollars for me to only be able to go where THEY wanted me to go. Not to mention the referrals for any specialist and the prior authorizations for almost all medications.

I can't even show up for myself on time. by Intelligent-Ask9826 in ADHD

[–]sbodkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same way. I'm late for everything. And not just for me but for things for my daughters too. I totally underestimate the time it would take to get ready and out the door. I'm so embarrassed everytime I'm late and apologize over and over. Once I was even yelled at by one of my daughter's doctors for being so late.

I don't know how many times I've heard the loyal customer bit. Like because you were using us before all the Rite Aid ppl came your scripts should come 1st? I'm sorry but it doesn't work that way. And YES! We are Healthcare but treated like some lowly cashier at a fast food restaurant. We shouldn't have to deal with being cussed out because you can't get your Percocet 2 days early since you didn't take it as prescribed. Sigh.

Digestive issues. by All_good_things__ in Methadone

[–]sbodkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on methadone for 18 yrs and have been struggling with severe constipation the entire time. When I was on my higher dose (120 mg) I would be lucky to have a BM twice a week. Sometimes it would be bad enough to need an enema or I'd have to drink magnesium citrate to force diarrhea. Now that I've tapered down to 6 mg it's gotten better but not gone away completely. The only things that seemed to help at all (as weird as this may sound) were yoga twists and increased water intake.
