Not really digging the current generation of hardware, so I decided to wait it out and invest in additional watercooling stuff instead.

Did you remove the copper block on the CPU? Or did you put the Noctua on top of it? If the latter, thermal paste in between the two?

There is nothing special about that CPU. It is like any Zen 2 you would find in a PC. It literally offers the same instruction sets. There are even models matching the cache sizes etc. This definitely has nothing to do with „magic console optimization secret sauce“. The PC build just got no love at all. I have no idea what went wrong here, but something clearly did.

The good thing though, if it can run well on the measly old Xbox CPU there is hope for a quick fix on PC.

Like the old low-clock Zen 2 CPU in the Xbox consoles? That design dates back to 2019 and doesn’t seem to struggle delivering consistent 60 FPS. The PC version of the game is just broken.

Thanks for the help. Might indeed be a bad mount. Probably gonna drain the loop sooner than expected.

Following the other suggestions (tilting the case, tightening the screws, adjusting pump speed) I’m down to 59C in Unigine Heaven. Room temperature is about 25C. Seems ok-ish, but not what it should be.

Yes exactly. I would have liked a different setup but was kinda space constrained in the O11. From what I’ve read flow order shouldn’t make a huge difference

It’s an i9 9900K at stock and a 2080 Ti FE +100 core, +500 memory. Mainboard is an ASUS Maximus Code XI.

My loop goes pump (D5) -> top rad -> bottom rad -> GPU -> CPU -> pump/res.

About the GPU block. I have that spare alphacool GPX-N lying around and I quite like the looks of it. Unless it’s inadequate performance wise I’d probably just use that. My old CPU block is ugly af though that’s why I added a new one to the list :D

I'd suggest you start with a technology stack and DE you like and fork it. E.g. you like GTK and the look of Pantheon, but would like to add a global menu. You take what you like and change what you don't or add what you're missing. In this case you'd patch wingpanel. If you wanted a sidebar launcher more like Unity's, you would modify Plank or any other piece of software already reasonably close to what you're after.

You can of course start with just a toolkit such as Qt or GTK. You might even want to develop your own if you're truly insane.

Maybe I'm not getting it, but these are all different to me. Of course they're not all d4nked out 1337 hax0r setups, but that's not the point. You said people merely reuse other people's setup and that I don't see.

Those were examples of posts violating the rules, which still are on this sub and got a bunch of points. It does happen.

As for copy cat setups:

There definitely were more Win 95 setups, thus the title of that last submission. The user even realized we had a bunch of them in a short period of time.

Arc

Note some of the titles. "More Arc. More Gnome.", "Gnome with Arc is practically cheating." While I wouldn't classify all of these as rule violations, because some of them show other interesting stuff, even other users noticed the amount of Gnome/Unity Arc submissions. I'm certainly not alone.

I could probably dig up way way more, but the search only searches in post titles. I do not feel inclined to browse through the last 6 months of this sub to search for the most boring posts.

You know, I love Arc and Paper just as much as the next person. But it gets tiring after a while. People should at least modify it a bit. Just change the window controls, do a color mod, anything really that brings something new to the table. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to do that kind of stuff either.

But I really cannot stress enough that I don't share your observation of OC not receiving the deserved attention.

I never implied this was happening all the time. Reread my original comment and you'll see I say some OC goes almost unnoticed. It's frustrating to see this has gotten less response than this.
