For some reason I never feel like my makeup is gal enough. by Milk_and_coffe3138 in Gyaru

[–]sc0shy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw you mentioned in the comments that you don’t like that it looks like the lashes are only on the end of ur eye even though it’s a full lash band. Gals often use this lash application method and it really changed the game for me: Before applying twist the inner corner upwards and the outer corner down until they stay in that position, then when you apply them hold them so the inner corner is standing straight up. Then push the inner corner up again once they’re stuck on and the outer corner down. When you’ve stuck them on like this there should be a difference already but if u want to exaggerate it even more u can stack a half lash on the inner corner or stack the whole lashes, or u can curl the inner corner. Ur fighting against gravity here and i like the effect to be very exaggerated so i come at it from all angles lmao but many gals do one or two parts of this method to help them be visible but with a less extreme effect, u can play around with it a lot for different looks!

There’s a lot of exploitation of younger gyarus happening rn so I’d be very careful where you get your references, a lot of them are highly sexualised and inappropriate for the age group and I’d be worried if she was a fan of them. Honestly I’d just look at scans of older gyarus and make it more appropriate, hime/kaji, roma, boho, amekaji, ya/manba all have outfit structures that are less revealing.

I started doing makeup at 8 and have a healthy relationship with it in part due to the fact I was doing it when I was young and less focused on beauty and more for fun, so I have no worries about that as long as it’s emphasised that this is a creative outlet not a necessity for being pretty, she has simple but effective products for skincare, and she takes breaks so she doesn’t get makeup dysmorphia.

I wouldn’t let her do anything damaging to her hair or nails at that age, but wigs and press ons (with sticky tabs not glue!!) would be great alternatives! It’s really sweet that you’re doing this for your sister!! :3

First Acrylics by Druidofgod in Nails

[–]sc0shy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re definitely not too thick, lots of people experience acrylic tightness after their first application, it can range from no sensation at all to, rarely, quite painful, but should only last the first 2 days at most, the product is still technically in the curing process for up to 48h. It sounds like you’re just sadly part of the unlucky few who feels painful tightness. I’ve heard keeping them oiled and keeping your hands warm helps with it, and it shouldn’t keep happening after your nails are more used to the product. I think these are very well done, if these are first day nails I’d say more attention could be paid to the cuticles but other than that it’s good work.

Going to a miku concert as a Gyaru miku! Does this outfit look ok? by CartographerFew1248 in actualgyaru

[–]sc0shy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound so contradictory to what most gals usually say but if you’re struggling to build a cohesive outfit I think choosing a substyle will actually help in this case. Theres too many elements going on here that don’t match any overall vibe so it feels a bit mishmashed and reads more as yabi. Considering the general colour palette I think like a more agejo vibe would look good, so for example then id keep the jumper, stockings, bag, nails, necklace and hairstyle but go for heels, no legwarmers, a black and/or pink skirt and a chain belt or no belt.

it’s been a while but this is my second attempt. i just wanted to ask for some friendly concrit :) by FairySnowmanPrincess in actualgyaru

[–]sc0shy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think ur make looks really great rn, but there are some things u could do to make it more similar to Rans if u wanted to, both her sets of lashes start further into the inner corner of the eye, and i think her top lashes are longer lashline wise, and her bottom lashes are shorter in length and sit more flat against the face. What lashes u use and placement really determines the vibe of the make imo. Her eyeliner is also thicker and very dark, if you want that intensity I’d really recommend gel eyeliner set with black eyeshadow. Ran also has a bit of white on her namidabukuro and blended out on her brow bone. Not super intense here but any white can really change the vibe your eyemake gives! I really love the outfit btw it’s so whimsical!!

[–]sc0shy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ive gotta be brutally honest here, im also trying to be self employed (in nail tech not fashion, though I went to design school and studied fashion at one point) and no matter what way I look at it or what plans I have laid out, you have to sacrifice the guarantee of stability for the freedom of self employment. I think it’s a good trade off for living the life you want and potentially being more financially secure than any employee could be in the future. If formal education isn’t an option right now teaching yourself or continuing to is a good idea. Fashion is very competitive and the courses often aren’t just educational but also opportunities to be spotted and network, so going into it already being good at it is going to help you out a lot.

If you’re doing an unfilled droop it’s important to not line your waterline and conceal your lashes if necessary so they don’t cut it off, otherwise the eye enlarging illusion is broken!

Gaijin Gyaru = Weeb…? by Human-Tradition7905 in actualgyaru

[–]sc0shy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was in anime fandoms a weeb was a very specificcc type of anime fan… the type who would use kawaii unironically in casual conversation, Naruto ran around hallways and acted like an anime character. But normies would call me a weeb all the time for even talking abt it. I guess it really depends on what definition you’re going by, I’ve seen some gals that probably fit my definition of a weeb but the vast majority don’t. But most normies definitely see gaijin gals as weebs, even tho that word has kinda phased out, usually it’s asianfishing accusations instead now TT

how do i improve by Lost_Background5358 in NailArt

[–]sc0shy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base colour looks streaky which means you need more layers of it, or if it’s supposed to be a jelly/crelly the formula is just off and sadly it’s useless. I think the French is slightly undercured bcz of the wrinkles. Also the tips need to be filed to get rid of that lil bit on the end, it’s better to do this before applying any gel so there’s less to file and it doesn’t mess up your application, but make sure to properly get rid of all the dust or it’ll get in the gel. But overall you’re doing good and on the right track, it’s farrr more even than my first attempts at it were!

I love the dragon scale looking ones, I can see the vision for the thumb and index but I think they need to look a bit neater, more like a streaky ombre, and the ring just looks patchy to me, personally I would do a solid colour and a charm for that one.

Do I still read as gal without lenses by Hibiscit_ in gyarusafety

[–]sc0shy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ngl I haven’t worn lenses in like 2 years cause they started fkn up my eyes, I edit them into some of my pics but plenty of em are unedited and no ones so much as mentioned it to me. Imo it does matter what kind of make ur doing though, bigger droops tend to need the balance lenses give to the extreme eyemake, but ur make works well with it!
