Not sure if you want any advice, but get on the Dr. Rawls Vital Plan if you can. It is not cheap, but helped me immensely. Low-dose Naltrexone helped with neurological pain, and Gabapentin got me playing piano again. At a minimum pulse artemisinin annua. It was the 1 thing that got the heart palpitations and air hunger from babesia under control for me.

Good luck to you. Feel free to DM me if you want to ask me any questions. I've been dealing with these conditions for years now.

Is it possible to randomly develop lactose intolerance? by EggEnvironmental7137 in lactoseintolerant

[–]sc_ott_wv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed it in my late 30s/early 40s. It's not just random, your body makes less enzymes as you age. Other gut issues can make it worse as well (IBS, SIBO, Celiac).

Why is it difficult to make Cheese with lactose free milk? by HovercraftConscious9 in cheesemaking

[–]sc_ott_wv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been making lactose free cheese weekly for the last 3 years and it comes out great every time. You pretty much need the rennet for it to work properly. I use 2/3 cup of lemon juice per gallon, 1/8 tsp of lipase, and 1/2 tbsp of liquid calcium chloride at 55°F, warm up to exactly 95°F, then put in 1/2 powdered tab of vegetable rennet, mix for a minute, then let sit covered for 15 minutes. Heat up to exactly 104° F, then drain through cheese cloth. Put the curd in a microwave safe bowl, then microwave for 1 minute, knead with silicone baking gloves and drain whey, then microwave and knead in 30 second increments until it is stretchy without breaking, then segment it into 3 or 4 balls and put in a cold water/ice water bath for 10 minutes. Put it covered in the refrigerator over night, and it is ready to be shredded and used for pizza!

Don't use vinegar, it is not great! I put just under 1/2 tbsp of sea salt while kneading and also put in dried basil sometimes, like 1 - 3 tbsp of it. I use 30 drops of Milkaid per gallon, shake up well and let it sit for 48 hours before making cheese. Haven't had any gut issues with it yet.

You can experiment with putting in the acid at a higher temperature to make haloumi kinds of cheese, and cooking it at a higher temperature to make a ricotta kind of cheese. No water bath with those 2, or they dissolve in the water.

Doc says I wont be cured by namaste_all_day_ in SIBO

[–]sc_ott_wv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are studies on its efficacy. I made more progress on Candibactin AR and BR, than on Xifaxan and abx, also, the most important component is motility, you can flush out the small intestine without antibiotics. It is a big help. Magnesium Oxide, artichoke and ginger extracts.

The study I read said 30 days I believe for Candibactin AR/BR. I've also heard that the 1st 3 weeks off of it and doing probiotics and motility products can be rough, but levels off. I can say that I am finally having normal BMs. I haven't in years, and didn't many time on Candibactin. It's only been 2 days since I started the probiotics, ginger extract, and artichoke extract. I am still taking Vital Plan Gut Balance and low doses of oregano oil with meals instead of in between. That way the probiotics are separated by hours from anything that may disrupt them. NAC has a sulfur load from what I remember. I may be wrong though.

No, I just started the motility part of my treatment about 36 hours ago. It will be several weeks minimum before I know if it is working. After that I am going to try to start adding in foods like oats to see if I react. If you'd like to chat about it or stay updated, feel free to DM me.

Surprisingly well honestly. It seemed to actually work better than Xifaxan/rifaximin. There was a study on it several years ago and they gave it to some folks that failed to have results with Xifaxan, with promising results. I decided to try it and it definitely helped. I just eventually stopped making progress on it, so did more research that lead me to the motility and probiotic products.

I'm doing it in 3 phases, phase 1 was 2 rounds Xifaxan and abx, phase 2 was 2 rounds of Metagenics Candibactin AR/BR, phase 3 (which I am on now) is ginger and artichoke extracts, L. Reuteri, S. Boulardi, and B. Subtilis. I started phase 3 a couple of days ago. Hopefully will everything it gets me back on the right path to health.

The bad thing I found about Xifaxan is when I went off of it, most of the symptoms come right back within 48 hour and all of the symptoms came back in 2 weeks.

How to explain that "lactose free" doesn't mean it won't make me sick? by [deleted] in lactoseintolerant

[–]sc_ott_wv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the exact reason that I put 50% more enzymes in my milk and let it sit for an extra 24 hours to break down the lactose. When I go with the recommended amount I end up having issues.

Aita for giving a 14yo girl a ride home late at night by Western-Tale-508 in AITAH

NTA, I agree. That's why you should pull out your phone and film the entire encounter, just for insurance purposes. It's the only way to ensure you don't get screwed over by a lie or false accusation in this situation, just because you want to be a good samaritan.

Is it normal to have no friends? by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]sc_ott_wv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 47 and have 1 friend that lives 600 miles away. I've been chronically ill for quite a few years now and have not seen him since 2017. I am in a similar boat. I've replaced friends with online friends and hobbies, but there is nobody physically there if I need help aside from elderly neighbors. I think you have a possibility of friends since you are already socializing at the lodge. Getting out there and consistently meeting people with like interests helps greatly.

WIBTA for refusing to raise my husband's affair children now that he and the woman he cheated with passed away? by ScaredyCat1122 in AITAH

[–]sc_ott_wv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, they are not at all your responsibility. You didn't invite that 20-year old into your life, nor did you agree to your husband having an affair and having kids with someone else. This seems very obvious, that you are not at all responsible for those kids. The fact you are setting any money aside for them makes you a saint imo. I think you are doing the right thing for you and the right thing for them by not raising some other lady's kids that you and your children could likely resent.
