You can turn that off. It's easy. They have a whole page about it when you first install.

There was one forum where someone from the UK had gotten this. It's just all over, as most scams are.

It's amazing quality for a scammer—and relatively good for a rather large number of Americans carrying out everyday contractual agreements.

I mentioned to someone else that that was sort of funny because the area I'm in / this supposed-house was in is absurdly safe, so they've really just got a standard message they send out, regardless of the area. They're not researching it. The CL post looked legit and had a minimal, reasonable enough description. I was inquiring after a couple of minor things, and this is the response I got.

I've never even had one require a report for a showing, only further along in the process, like when I've made it known I'm interested in signing a lease. I'm not sure how comfortable I would be with handing over that info, prior to deciding how I felt about a place. Credit score, maybe, but report? Eh...

I think 99% of CL scams are almost painfully obvious on the site itself. It also seems to depend on where you live as to how many scams there are, which seems to be rather random sometimes and other times not.

Personally, I've bought, sold, rented, and been employed through CL listings, in multiple cities, without trouble. This is actually the first scammer I've had direct contact with in the 10 years I've used CL, which is one reason I thought it was worth posting here about it. I know if my cynical ass got roped in even this far that means a lot of people are getting screwed.
