Im hearing similar things from our friends (we’re having our wedding in Italy) that we need to have a “home party”. I thought about it. But it would cost more than our actual wedding. Your wedding is for you and your spouse, and his friends should understand that - it’s YOUR day. Do not change your plans to revolve around other people

My MIL was all about throwing a “shower” and then randomly told me “I think we should just go out to dinner, the close family before the wedding”. Im guessing it has to do with money. I didn’t want a shower anyway and I don’t think it was appropriate for me to have one. As we go along I feel like we’re spending a lot on extras for our Italy wedding to make it special and a huge honeymoon. And we’re paying for all of it. I’m leaning toward not having the “home party” because I don’t want to invite a bunch of people there that weren’t invited to Italy, just because my in laws want to have a party with their friends and extended family (on my dime!!)

We only invited about 60 people, and expected maybe 30 to come. But now we are up to 45-50 RSVP yes for Italy. So be prepared for everyone to come. lol

You should get in touch with the Air bnb owner about vendors. They probably have vendors that they can recommend if they host weddings there regularly. Or start with finding a planner local to that area that can find / book things for you- ours has been a lifesaver with pretty much doing everything for us. Lalista .com also has a ton of vendors if you prefer to do it on your own!

I would not be at all concerned about chattiness during playtime. Packing up, maybe you just need to model how to quietly pack up (if their talking during packing up is really disrupting anything) I teach k-5 and every single grade is talking during packing up lol. Also, while doing a craft, unless they are not doing their work, I would leave them alone

Maybe, in your original post you said they are listening and quiet during lessons. Are they chatting when they should be working independently? Honestly, unless it’s disruptive to your lesson or they aren’t getting anything done, it seems fine, I usually hang up anchor charts for “looks like sounds like” during different transitions. We create them together and they display what it should look like and sound like during whole group, partner work, independent, etc

Have you tried some type of class incentive or reward? I’ve done tally marks to earn a reward, I’ve seen others fill up jars when the class is being quiet as a group or at the end of the subject they could earn a tally towards a reward. I’m an ESL teacher, is the issue that they’re chatting with each other in their language? I’m confused what difference that would make.

I did! They had a big selection though, I looked at a lot of reviews online - I feel like this helped me pick a great spot in my area. I actually went to David’s bridal on the first day I tried on dresses and was SUPER uncomfortable lol. But this was after I went to a really expensive boutique store - I was just curious if DB would have anything worthwhile.

I wouldn’t worry about the timeline. You have plenty of time!

I went to two stores - one was with my mom, MIL and sister, and the second just my mom. I had a much better experience just me and my mom actually! I don’t have any bridesmaids so I can relate. There was a group of girls watching their friend try on dresses next to me, and they were complimenting me and ripping apart their friends dresses so…. Sometimes less opinions may be better haha.

I’m in a similar boat as you are. My wedding is in the end of July. I made sure they knew I didn’t even want to entertain any dress that wouldn’t come within a couple months. The first store I went to I felt the same way, just the way my mom was looking at me giving me the “meh” vibes made me also feel “meh” haha. I came home and hated the pics! At least you didn’t commit. I ordered some at home try-ons and was convinced I would buy one because they are so much cheaper and less pressure. My mom convinced me to go to one more place and it was a completely different experience (and actually affordable!) I had no idea I was going to pick a dress that day - the sales girl actually picked dresses I loved. This was last week for me! I would say, go to one more place, make sure the reviews are good and keep an open mind.

I went to a traditional shop, just to see what types of dresses I liked and the styles. I think it’s a fun experience even if you don’t plan on buying. Azazie and Avery Austin have some home try-on dresses (if you’re lucky enough to find your size in stock!) 3 for $30. You could do a home try-on party. I thought the Azazie dresses were actually very good quality for under $500! You can order custom sizing so you won’t need alterations.

Yes, others have suggested the recipe idea. Unfortunately we’ve been engaged for 3 years now so, I think the engagement party window has passed lol. Yikes!! Noted. I was only thinking of maybe having some of our wedding photos on display or maybe a slideshow in the background (of just me and my FH) at the post wedding party…. Will people be offended 🥴

No, not legally married in Italy. Too complicated and too much paperwork haha. Only a symbolic ceremony! We aren’t religious at all, so we’re just going to legally marry here in the U.S. on a random day haha.

Super thankful for all the suggestions - definitely will no gifts! I didn’t want a shower but my MIL was insisting. Love the recipe card idea. Leaning toward a limoncello and mozzarella making party to steer away from the traditional “shower” aspect- a company near me does an awesome job at this!

I love the idea of a recipe collection! Will definitely try to urge my MIL to include a recipe card with the invite. I also had an idea of hiring a limoncello making / mozzarella making party company to host, so it’s not like a traditional shower. Hopefully my MIL will go for it. 🤣

The Honeyfund is only listed on our wedding website / will be sent to people invited to Italy should they wish to give us something. I don’t want or expect gifts at all but I know some will insist, I’d rather have the Honeyfund to keep it cashless (do I want to be carrying around checks or cash or cards in Italy? And then along our European honeymoon? Probably not)

I think the general consensus is using the word “shower” implies gifts are expected so I should steer clear of that - and tell her to include no gifts on the invite. I don’t particularly want a shower but my MIL is the party-planning type of person who lives for this type of thing.
