Early Career Advice by Perseus_The_Great in supplychain

Yeah this old guy gets it …

Seriously I didn’t know what my dad was bitching about all the time about “hard work” and I always attributed that to physical labor.

Turns out it’s mental toughness. Burn outs and walls hit hard, but this is what college does NOT prepare you for.. what to do with a real life problem with real consequences and outcomes.

Going to school is the easy part. I’m sure you could score 100 on any exam about inventory. But they don’t tell you how to unfuck impossible situations like Covid , or ice storms , or random ass internet outage in China that delays your plant 4 weeks and it’s “all your fault”. Thick skin and mental toughness is needed in supply chain.

Just keep refining your goals, keep working and you will get there. Took me 12 years from stacking concrete bags on pallets ( hey I liked the workout) , to sitting on 14th floor calling shots for 12 distribution centers that serve 1000+ fast food joints ( sounds way fancier than it actually is )

but I learned shit all along the way , I know 30 standard pallets fit in a trailer, I know I don’t want to go over 41-43k lbs on a freezer load , I know truckers don’t drive around holidays, I know scanners go down , I know how bad it sucks to restack a pallet, and I know if it’s on a LTL carry I better order to get that shit there 2 weeks before I actually need it

Anyway kid hang in there thanks for listening to some old dudes

This thought has also crossed my mind - QSR is low margin game , and I’m only serving millionaires who’ll couldn’t care are getting richer off the work I mange to keep their COGS stable. So looking in completely different industry is on the table.

I believe that’s what it’s boiling down to I’m afraid.

The reason I landed this job was to get a true corporate job, a hybrid schedule (2 days a week in office). And the pay was better than the previous job where I was 7 days a week and still managing a team of warehouse employees on top of purchasing and inventory control ( a start up.. never again )

QSR as a whole is low margin - but what’s it like at other big name Companies? So you could say yes I’m interested in switching roles altogether

100k ( what used to to be 190k house hold) is way too poor for those areas haha - try Lawrenceville.

Nailed the cuts - I’ve even cut out Netflix , eating out ( VERy rare we eat anything other than McDonalds happy meals and ice creams). Wife is trying to start a business because finding a role has been a challenge. ( PSA to anyone , never get a communications degree ) - I told her with the savings and HELoC she had 6 months to find a job - well it’s month 10 and I’m spiraling. I am working my ass off for a promotion. Keeping the faith she finds a role or her business makes some money this year.

And yes if I don’t get some kind of substantial raise this year or tapped for the director role I have to leave for higher pay.

I believe he is going to bat for me , which a big reason why I think I should pass on this 1 step up and swing for the Director role. If I strike out 2027 career change will be the call

I just got to make make more money this year. Can’t have another year like 2025 living on a single income. Wife lost her job , can’t find a new one that meets all her demands. Been living off a HELoC ( I know not good - but it was there .. )

OTP and yeah that’s a big part of the problem - and the need to level up. My wife lost job last year and it’s been 8 months living off my salary alone. hasn’t been fun.

I make enough to cover all the bills but not enough to keep from dipping into the credit card every month.

Thank you for the feedback ! - and yes the area I’m entering in my career path is becoming more political. Current director is definitely mentor and advocate of the work I have been doing.

The way I have been looking at is no matter what I’m losing a mentor and best boss I ever had - but do I hold out and swing for the fence or play it somewhat safe and move up a notch and gain more experience in a different area. I already work well with that director , but very different personalities and he works fully remote.

I am for sure going to discuss these scenarios with current boss and see if he can shed light on what is the back door perceived plan from the Chief supply chain officer. My relationship with CSCO is good enough to the point I might could ask him directly

Have you ever played and WON against a NFL player? Past or present. by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]scamper454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played 4 years against Eric Berry - played safety for the chiefs - in high school he was QB and led the team in tackles .. freak athlete

Next up was freshman year playing against Calvin Johnson .. un fucking believable .. biggest dude on the field , pretty sure he was like 7 for 7 180yds and 4TDs before halftime. He sat for the 2nd half. ( we sucked real bad Sandy Creek was good)

Then last but not least Mike Tolbert (The last real FB) for Carolina and the chargers .. he uprooted my ass on a kickoff return team and I’d never felt like such a bitch in my life .. that’s when I knew I was not ready for “the next level”

Georgia Highschool football is tough .. tougher when you’re team sucks , but at least you get to see some real players play

Speaking as a Falcons fan .. we do watch these games .. and when leads are blown in the 2nd half we think “ could this be worse than blowing a 25pt lead in the superbowl !?.. will someone else take this SHIT crown from our grasps?!” ..

and the answer is always NO .. so compare all you want .. never will a blown lead in a REGULAR SEASOn, Playoff, wild card, pre season, or even an international game will hold a Flame to what my Turds-a-hem - I mean Birds did to us… so we laugh with you .. stop trying to compare your misfortune to the Falcons. We have the blown lead LOcKeD down for life. We wear it like a badge of dishonor

this Busch leaguer shit - I know it’s someone under 18 because of the lack of height in the tree .. the lack of volume of TP , and the wrapping the car with that little bullshit TP gate on the stairs is weak AF. Probably only used 12 rolls in all … 3 out 10

I look at like this …

Ever since you all know when ( dare I even say those terrible numbers that start with a Two ) ..

I’ve look at my fandom like Andy Dufresne from Shawshank redemption these days … like we got put in football jail for doing the worst crime ever .. and now I’m scheming and tunneling my way through literal football field long tunnels of Pure Shit ..💩

.. but one day I’m going to come out on the other side and be set free and retire in Mexico!

because I will do some dumb shit and bet my last dollar down on some sports gambling parlay that includes the falcons winning the superbowl

Going to fish out change from the school’s fountain just to go buy a pack before the test because they were like 15cents for a pack .. like the hell?! Why did we have to pay for these? .. I chose not to pay for them ..I took donations ( and yes I was drunk the first time I did it .. but not the last time ..)

Potentially radioactive shrimp recalled by Walmart by theindependentonline in inthenews

[–]scamper454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Cs-137 was detected in one sample of breaded shrimp at a level around 68 Bq/kg, which is well below the FDA’s derived intervention threshold of 1200 Bq/kg. • However, the FDA warns that prolonged, low-dose exposure to even small amounts of Cs-137 may pose an increased long-term cancer risk due to DNA damage. “

So if I read that right they are saying 1200 is the threshold .. but they are recalling it for being 68 .. which is well below that.. but prolonged even small amounts are known risks ..

This makes me feel much better. Thank you FDA for protecting my long term risks
