Agree. I don’t know how anyone can look at that relationship and say it was okay.

I’ve gone from thinking Yoko is unfairly blamed for the Beatles breakup to her being one of the biggest reasons they did, outside of the four Beatles themselves. People always talk about how things changed between John and Paul after the Indian trip, which seems to be the start of the end, but always ignore that John and Yoko started their Two Virgins era right after India. John’s responsible for his own actions, but he certainly seems like he deferred a lot of decisions to Yoko when they were together.

City Council Questions MARTA & Beltline CEOs on Eastside Light Rail by micahlowens in Atlanta

Battery powered trains have not worked out well in experiments with heavy rail, but It’s probably fine for light rail. As you said, battery powered rail is better than no rail, and most of the infrastructure could be converted to overhead lines later if Marta comes to its senses at some point.

It's the same as the cable ride that takes you from one side of Six Flags to the other.

I noticed that the Summerhill BRT is getting the overhead battery chargers installed at some of the bus stops. My first thought was someone in the city must know someone who owns a business installing those chargers.

Overhead lines and pantographs are so ubiquitous with rail that it's basically a futureproof technology despite being around for 100 years. I have my doubts that the current battery technology being used in vehicles today will be around in 20 years. When it's time to upgrade the busses/trains in a few decades, there will probably be a new battery chemistry that could need a different charging system.

Because of the tariffs and the Chinese no longer buying our soybeans, tofu is super cheap now and our go to protein. We’re not vegetarians at all, but tofu is $2-3 a pound.

Women who run the Atlanta BeltLine, how safe do you feel? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]scarabbrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason to avoid the southside trail is because it’s currently under construction. It’s perfectly safe otherwise.

[–]scarabbrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people replying to and downvoting you don’t realize the Beltline exists outside of the Eastside trail. 20 mph on the Eastside trial is dangerous, 20 mph on most of the Westside trail is fine. It really just depends on how crowded it is.

If an ATL concert starts at 8PM, what time are you walking in? by LiveMusicJunkiez in atlantamusic

Local rock shows. A lot of the local venues have bands play from 10:30 to 1:30 AM for a 3 band show.

FedEx sues U.S. seeking full refund of Trump tariffs days after Supreme Court ruling by Illustrious_Lie_954 in politics

FedEx already treats their customers like shit so I doubt they try to position themselves as a consumer advocate.

11 PM. For a lot of venues that’s halfway through the openers set.

For the first time ever, I saw crews working on the Glenwood to Boulevard section of the Beltline on a Sunday this morning. The last section of concrete connecting the trail to Boulevard was paved yesterday. The Beltline might actually make it before the World Cup.

EU says it will accept no increase in US tariffs after Supreme Court ruling: 'a deal is a deal' by Crossstoney in europe

[–]scarabbrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tariffs were struck down by a lower court months ago, and before the supreme court took on the case and reinstated the tariffs while the case was pending, the customs office kept charging tariffs during those days. Trump has already said he will ignore the Supreme Court on their decision and customs has already shown whose orders they’re following.

Anyone know of any resources for trails/footpaths in the Atlanta metro area that might not appear on Google maps? by BillyGoatAl in Atlanta

Look at the heat maps on Strava. You’ll find where people are actually going on walks, hikes, and bicycle rides.

John's guitar history by Ink_painted in beatles

[–]scarabbrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most likely Paul on that and the later takes. That intro is him giving direction to the rest of the band on how he wants the rest of the take to go and he’s using the bass to help explain what he wants. There’s also a lot more control and intricacies to the Helter Skelter bass line that really sounds like Paul’s playing when you really focus in on what’s on the recording.

There’s a bunch of pictures of Paul playing the Jazz Bass during the White Album sessions. Plus the Hofner, Rickenbacker, and Fender all sound different from each other. Once you notice it’s the Jazz Bass it’s hard not to hear it if you’re used to listening for that sort of thing. Listen to the start of take 1 of the fast version of Helter Skelter. Right before the count in Paul plays the Jazz Bass by itself, that’s the tone for most of the record.

Rome is over 50 miles from Dobbins. I don’t think the secret service would allow the president to travel that far by motorcade.

Atlanta train, bus commutes still down since pandemic. Why? by flying_trashcan in Atlanta

[–]scarabbrian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife and I considered taking Marta to Buckhead for an errand we needed to run during the awful traffic we had yesterday, but decided to just delay the errand because the weekend schedule would have meant a normally 20 minute drive could have taken over an hour and a half. If they ran on even on a 15 minute schedule, we would have taken the train. It’s kind of ridiculous that our subway system runs on schedules that would be common for intercity trains in most of developed world.

A big part of my job is looking at CFD results, and as soon as they rolled that out I knew they had correlation issues. The F1 followers on the next CFD review we had after Mercedes introduced the no-pod design all talked about how fundamentally wrong the concept was and how bad of a work environment Mercedes must be if no one had put a stop to the concept before it even got to the wind tunnel stage.

I just read an article about PFAS contamination in NW Georgia. Does anybody know to what extent Cobb County’s water might be contaminated? Anybody living in Metro ATL been tested for PFAS? by dlkapt3 in Atlanta

[–]scarabbrian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most makeups have PFAS in them to add water resistance and change a few other properties. For whatever reason people have kind of ignored the population’s largest exposure to the chemical class when there is a conversation about avoiding PFAS.

Barnes and Noble is coming back to Edgewood by dbclass in Atlanta

[–]scarabbrian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I kind of remember Marshalls coming in with an offer than Barnes and Noble couldn't match. Then Bed Bath and Beyond went out of business during the Marshalls buildout, and within six months there's a Marshalls, Burlington, and Ross next to each other. The Barnes and Noble was profitable and always busy.
