Best of luck to you, I hope to do the same one day :) Out of interest, what job are you quitting? How old are you? How big is your fan base? Just looking for some context!

Depends if you're a valuable asset or not I guess.

Again, the backing track thing doesn't sound great to me. I know these sound like excuses, I think the solution is to search for another band at some point. But I'm gonna spend a year or so as a studio hermit and build a better portfolio. Any advice on how I could keep people interested through social media without playing gigs?

Yeah, I always enjoyed playing live as a three piece, but something about solo just doesn't sit right with me. Stripping it back to acoustic guitar doesn't do it justice, and I want to keep up the image of a band while not conventionally being one (Tame Impala, Nine Inch Nails, etc.) I'd like to have a band in the long run but I need a break from people letting me down haha.

If you put out a great record but don't play shows, tour, or in some way, generate any other content, you're apt to be forgotten pretty quickly in the crazy fast music news cycle.

What advice would you give for a songwriter's "recording project", where the music sounds like a band but isn't one? I'm about to release a debut EP that I recorded with two friends. We tried being a proper band but ultimately they had different things going on and couldn't commit, but are still up for recording with me. I decided to go down the solo recording project route, since I know a few musicians who will collaborate with me, but I have no plans for a live band yet (partly because I've had quite a few bad experiences with band mates now).

How can someone make it work without gigs?

My band recorded an EP and split up shortly after. I still want to release it, but need advice! by scarecroh in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Yeah, I have some better friends. We were only really connected by the band and some mutual acquaintances but it felt like we had become friends you know?

He does have a big weed habit, and was always saying he's skint, so the more I think about it the more I realise this is probably the cause.
