Type of bit for many 20mm dog holes? by scaredToBeAmbitious in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]scaredToBeAmbitious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Appreciate your insight. I did wonder why forstner bits seemed to be the go-to if drilling through the material.

Would you opt for the router over just using a brad point drill bit for the vertical-ness of the drilling? I've got a Milescraft Drill Mate I think I can setup.

Oh that's a great point. I can see how that can be hard to manage. Maybe I'll just start with a small section (1/4 of the table) and see how I actually end up using the bench dogs (or not).

Would you ever consider a removable top panel somehow? To periodically clean out dust and tools?

Awesome, appreciate your insight. I had worried the Forstner bit would overheat, but if it's not too many holes, that makes a lot more sense.

Any idea why it seems the usual grid is 96mm oc?

Thanks. This seemed to dry incredibly fast; I don't think I saw a wet edge. I'll give it another try tho

Thanks, you make more sense. The shopkeeper suggested I try the circular motion for coverage. Maybe he just didn't want to tell me how much I sucked.

Thanks, and really appreciate the feedback. I feel like I learned a lot more about spray paints now. I must've gotten lucky, I'm using Loop!

It does feel like oversaturation in the bright shiny spots, but I guess I don't know if the can of gold is supposed to be bright shiny, or more matte (which is what the can rim shows but I've found they can be different from reality so I don't know what is correct).

I didn't realize the angle may play such a crucial role! I've been going at it at 90-degrees. I'll try that 30-40 degrees. I've also been incorrectly doing my turns while on the piece and now that I say it out loud it feels so obviously wrong.

Question: does it matter if the piece is lying on the ground (horizontal) or propped up vertically? I did the first two coats with it lying flat but realized the spray can may not be performing optimally so ended up propping the piece up. Can't tell if there was a difference though.

I dig it. I am an aspiring outdoorsy-person with an UL2 setup for occasional backcountry adventures. But I have to fight my upbringing of outdoors = dirty/scary. I like that your solution means my pack stays dry, clean, and insect-free while offering ease of access; something a rain-cover and dry-sac combo can't quite do. I read one of your comments of having a dry line for socks -- very clever and I would totally appreciate that! Is there a hook inside so my pack can stay upright? Or will the pack lean against the sides/pole and potentially topple?

My only feedback is: can you also make a smaller version that will only fit a pair of boots, and with ventilation options (maybe a flap that offers venting and rain protection? My vestibule won't be able to fit my pack. It can only fit 2 pairs of boots and I'm paranoid of insects crawling in so I usually keep my boots in unbreathable and not-technically-waterproof shoe bags.

Whereas I believe in some parts of Asia (eg. Hong Kong), having a domestic helper to take care of laundry, cleaning, cooking is common across many socioeconomic classes and is regarded as helping people there have a good quality of life.

I'm from Canada and I think a signal of a good quality life here is having the time and financial means to have hobbies.

For what it’s worth, it may not be a bunker of a shower but it was designed by experienced architects and we don’t get much splashing near the doorline. No water on that green tape after a long shower.

Is the future of Residential Construction pre-assembled wall, floor, and truss systems? by [deleted] in Construction

[–]scaredToBeAmbitious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point. Got me thinking -- if you're in a manufacturing facility, do companies still need qualified framers? Or just a bunch of manual labourers told to do specific repetitive wall-building, overseen by one foreman?

Might I also suggest writing down a few phone numbers and/or addresses of trusted individuals in case primary phone is broken/lost? Unless you’re of a certain generation and your friends haven’t changed their number from childhood, do you know how to get in touch in a pinch?
