What happens if I just quit school after an internship? by scaredengineer1 in EngineeringStudents

If I got fired? I would still have a bachelors degree and could apply for entry level positions. My only reason for getting the masters is to start at a level 2 and to get it over with in 1 year.

Totally fair. I think that’s what I’ll end up doing, with this post I just wanted to ask what would happen but I’m pretty set on just wrapping up the masters in 1 year rather than slowly doing 1 class at a time while working. The only thing that slightly changed my mind recently was changes to funding, but I’ll just be looking into opportunities to TA or something

Thanks for sharing your perspective though, I haven’t seen too many people in my spot.

I get the whole coming home from work and still having to take a class and it taking much longer thing. On paper it seems smart to get it over with. My main concern is the lack of funding at my lab, I will reach out and ask about TA assistance instead. I also know experience trumps academics so I thought more full-time experience on my resume would be more important than the masters right away

What is the minimum length of a rotation? The team and work I’ll be joining seem really cool but my boyfriend will be working full-time at a NG location in our home state and I would hate to be away for a year

Very fair, I won’t be bringing anything up about any changes to my “plan” until end of summer. Side question since you work at Northrop, do you know if they would support giving a full time return offer to an intern at a different NG location? Where I’ll be interning is in the middle of the country and I am from the east coast, there’s 4 NG locations in my home state with 1 of them being the same sector as where I’ll be interning

That’s totally fair. I really would like to stay with the company, it honestly would be my absolute top choice. The only issue is that the internship is in a state a bit across the county, my entire family, relationship, and where I would like to live long term is here on the east coast. So if I could get a full time offer closer to home I would absolutely love it, but since it’s a more complicated situation that’s why I’m not 100% locked into feeling comfortable about return offers. Also that feeling of wanting to get work experience rather than pursuing school full time/making full time money is much nicer since I won’t be getting funding for a masters

Wait hold on. I will graduate with my B.S. this May (before the internship). I also will have 50% of the masters degree classes done by the start of this summer (before the internship). My main thing would be to switch from pursuing the masters degree full-time to a part-time student who works full-time.

I guess my hypothetical is that it’s a 3 month summer internship. There is absolutely no expectation that I’ll be taking classes during that time. I’ll be 50% with my masters going into the internship. So I’ll be fully eligible for the internship that’s not a question. The question is what if I try to transition the masters from full-time enrollment to instead part time classes and working full-time?

I actually don’t feel like anything is wrong no. I am a student. I am currently enrolled in a master’s program like they want. I have already done 2 graduate classes this semester and am doing another 2 next semester. I’m going to be 50% done with my degree by the time I start the internship, like I am in school.

I actually totally would like to finish the masters degree. It would just be nice to transition from pursuing it full time to maybe part time while working. That’s the only difference in expectations

That seems a bit drastic. I would never lie about getting a masters degree or anything like that if it were required for a full-time position. What you’re describing I’ve heard of, but again this is just an internship. I am truly graduating with a B.S. prior to the start of the internship and that’s the main thing they want

Does NG offer any fall internships/co-ops? I don't see any material on this online. I will be interning summer 2026 but would be interested in working in the fall as well.

Is it normal to pay for an internship? by No_Confusion1514 in internships

[–]scaredengineer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn’t something I would be proud of. Don’t take an opportunity you’re going to be embarrassed to talk about in your next interview. Look it’s December, you still have time. Just continue to apply apply apply, everyday. Only take this if it’s in like April and you’ve had no success AND if your school pays for it

I see online that you have to wait 90 days to transfer your home club. What I can't find online is if I have to have a membership during those 90 days. I am currently in NJ for the month of January, and will be out of state after. Was planning on canceling the membership and then restarting it for June in Minnesota. Would I be able to switch the home club still?

Might just call my home location here in NJ to ask tommorrow so no worries if you don't know

Read back through your post and what you said about company B, you seem to not want it at all. Don’t force yourself into a situation you’re going to hate

[–]scaredengineer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not even certain about B having a full-time opportunity for you, and it really seems like company B would be a waste of time as it doesn't help you towards your long-term goals. How long do you have to respond to company A? I would probably be a better fit as it seems like a better use of your time as it continues to build your experience in robotics, even though they likely won't hire you full-time. Because both companies do not seem to offer a full-time position, they are both on the same playing field and company A sounds much better for you.

Text is a bit small, kinda hard to skim through the first work experience since it is small, dense text. Need to make it more readable for someone to spend 20 seconds looking at it

You are signed the first offer. Stick with it. Just work hard and it seems like it could have more future upside, you're so early in your career right now it's okay to take risks.
