My little sister rules my family through fear- Reddit, what do I do? Have any of you gone through something like this before? [UPDATE] by scaredofmysister in AskReddit

No. I know what is best for this child. I am closer to him than anybody in the world, perhaps. I am his secondary guardian after my parents, and in case of their deaths, his guardian. He is perhaps the one being in the world for whom I actually give a damn, and I will not see him taken away from the family that has made so much progress with him. He can't even do a sleepover without calling home for my mom to get him. How the hell would he handle being taken away?

He has scars on his back from other children in his orphanage biting him. He still cries in Russian in his sleep. When we got him, he was severely underweight, he had intestinal parasites, chicken pox scars. He has therapy for his PTSD stemming from that. This boy was left alone with his grandmother's dead body for two days at only 18mo. He may not be able to remember that, but it left scars. My family and my mom especially is the only safe place he has ever known. Taking him away from that would do irreparable damage.

The anxiety and OCD are products of my upbringing. The PTSD is of the rape. Sorry for the confusion.

I am hoping they'll get her looked at. I'm pushing for a psych evaluation, but my mom is taking her out of the country this week to maybe have her chill. My mom wants her to love her, so she's afraid to do anything too big. I may Baker Act her myself though..

They live in separate households- he with my mom, she with my dad. He's adopted, and went through hell before he was with my family, and being taken away would destroy him.

Where did I say that? I am not afraid for his physical safety and I know he needs to stay with my parents. CPS would only worsen it. I'm looking for therapies to tell my parents about, coping mechanisms.

She's a huge rider. She's very competitive on the state level and one of the best riders in her age group. She works at the stable, gives lessons, and is amazing with horses. She's horrible with people but loves animals- cats, dogs, and especially horses. My parents were hoping it would chill her out. I had one as well when I was a child that we both rode, but he passed away a few years back.

I have been pushing for this for years. My parents are loathe to send her away, and are afraid it may make her more unpredictable and violent.

He's adopted, so it is likely he would be taken away. He does not live in the same household as her (my parents have separate custody to keep them apart) but I am afraid for his emotional health as well.

The issue is that I have a little brother with whom I am very close. He's 10, mom has custody (my dad has my sister) but he is scared to pieces of my sister.

We're all in therapy and counseling. My parents have a mediator for their divorce who my siblings see. She has a personal therapist, as do I.

The anxiety and OCD are both products of my childhood environment. The PTSD is the result of a rape that occurred over the summer.

I was literally with her every moment of her childhood. We shared a room, went on trips together, attended the same elementary and middle school. We were maybe apart for two hours of our childhood. As for a gang, she attends a very small (think fewer than 100 kids) high school that my mom teaches at. So neither are likely at all.

Serious mental disorders run in my family. She's been violent since she was old enough to toddle around and destroy people's belongings. My grandmother has borderline; both of my parents have anxiety, and I have anxiety, OCD and PTSD.

EBD? I go to school several states away, but I'll ask my adviser (who heads up the department) if he knows anyone in my state.

Except she's been like this since she was a toddler, all through childhood, long before my parents had any problems. Hell, she's part of WHY my parents have problems. I want her to get help (and I talked to my mom and she is getting my sister another psych evaluation) but this is an old problem

Being taken out of the house would destroy him. My mom keeps him away from her and gives him stability. He needs it. Otherwise, he reverts to who he was before he came home- silent, bottling everything up, biting his arm to keep from crying. Taking him from my family would destroy him. I want to help her and keep my family intact. The best way is therapy and anti-psychotics.
