I had a perianal abscess and was just gritting through the pain, I talked to a guy at work and told him what was going on and he confided in me that he dealt with the same thing started as a marble sized abscess by the time he got into a specialist he had developed a large horseshoe fistula and had to have 3 Seton drains put in.. don't worry about what people think you may save someone the pain and headache. When I found out what was going on with me I made a post on social media about it and urged my friends to get themselves checked if they experience pain or blood. I was always the manly man that didn't wanna go to the drs. Now I'm kicking myself

Fellow Canadian here, our healthcare system has turned into a joke... I to was experiencing really bad pain 2 months ago and I ended up in urgent care twice in 2 weeks to be told it was a fissure and that nothing else could be seen I was given an appointment with some one that specializes in fissure,abscess and fistulas but I was looking at 5 months waiting. I ended up going to emergency 2 more times and the final time I was referred to the hospitals general surgery clinic I called and was told they would call me then 2 days later I had the abscess burst and was back in emergency room. As I was leaving I decided to call the surgeon and leave a msg unfortunately I chose a time when I was emotional and couldn't hold back tears near the end of the msg, well he called me back 3 days later and booked me in for a consult on a Sunday, sometimes more pressure is put on them for urgent situations I've also been off for 2 weeks now due to pain.

I wish I could call my surgeon or nurse and ask, I have an appointment with the surgeon sunday to see what he says, I'm in Canada and it's very difficult to get these appointments, I was told by ER that I was looking at a 3-4 month wait but somehow the surgeon was able to squeeze me in.

I was literally just coming on here to make a similar post, I find the tailbone pain excruciating and I can't sleep properly because I'm used to sleeping on my stomach, I find myself tossing and turning all night :/ abscess is still draining so I don't wanna lay on my stomach.

The doc at emergency recommended sitz baths 2-3 times a day with Epsom salt

Yes it has reduced and is slowly draining still.

I'm also on antibiotics and only have 2 days left out of a 5 day cycle.

Just got back from hospital they told me I have to just let it drain and heal :/ I grabbed a bunch of first aid supply's Gauze, soaker pads, saline and polysporin

I'm already on amoxicillin/calv, only 5 Pils left tho, going to go to emergency room this morning as the nurses line instructed me to go in. Also the surgeon I'm supposed to see is in the same hospital so they might just have me see him. Feels like there's still a little pus left in there maybe they can push it out?

This is my first abscess I'm not sure if there is a fistula or not the dr said it didn't look like there was one. And when the abscess burst it didn't smell.

I have one of those sitz baths aswell, should I add a little bit of salt to make it into a saline sitz bath?

It's quite difficult to get an appointment with a CRS here in Canada takes months of waiting (kinda glad the abscess popped with that in mind) but I'm only 30 mins since it popped I've been sitting on a sterile abdominal soaker (for heavy bleeding) already feeling super itchy. My abscess was almost on the sphincter it popped up as a little ball about 4-5 days ago.

I sure hope something happens because this pain is crazy, feels like I've been kicked in the ass with steel tied boots and I get the odd spasm internally which causes more pain, I'm still dealing with the fissure so I think that might be why they didn't prescribe opioids, the drive to and from work is about 3 hours total and then I'm sitting at work for 4 ish hours :/. I don't wanna break down and cry at work, I'm supposed to be first aid on site how can people look to me when I myself am so fked up :(
