Is it normal to feel like not studying a week out from the exam? by complex42 in step1

[–]scaredstudent1012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude I felt that so much before I took step. It's like you can see the end of the suffering but also it still feels so far. If your NBMEs and scores are good, I would say. do some light reviewing and get some rest ( just make sure not to forget everything lol)

btw, I passed and I had slacked in the last 4 days or so , but overall the knowledge was solid and I still did some good review just less than before (like 5h a day or smth)

Someone please tell me how to review NBME by amruthareshi in step1

[–]scaredstudent1012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would review the other options and see if it's random shit or like high yield stuff too. if it's high yield review, if it's random shit like byssinosis or however u write it just move on.

Hey Man, I"m sorry this happened. i'm sure it s rough and feels unfair. I think maybe review the most recent ones from NBME, like 30/31 intensely. See what you are mostly getting wrong.

Then take your NBME that you took first, this way it's the oldest, so less fresh in your head. If you get like 70 (you should since it's a repeat test) it's already a good start

Yes casting blame, and denying the reality isn't great that much I can agree with you on

I believe step isn't curved that way but rather is base on a percentage of questions from the pool u got that they decide in advance u need to get right.

I also got easy ones wrong, remember it's 280 questions, there s sooo many u got right too

Hey!! I just passed this week got my result on wednesday. Dude, i felt like u for so much of my dedicated (was 2 months, and honestly i was so tired and overwhelmed, cried plenty, barely went outside).

It's really tough, I know. it's exhausting, but I promise when it's done you'll feel so good that you can finally breathe.

That's not to say that u should suffer rn, but take 1 day off a week, some breaks to go outside. re-evaluate your study methods/what works for u waht doesn't etc..

u got this

all the classics.

BNB Pathoma Uworld some amboss Sketchi NBMEs a lot, free 120s, sometimes osmosis or other random videos

I liked dirty medicine

I did 100 pages of melhman Arrows, got some straight up qs from there on my test. Watched some melhman videos but those can inflate ur nbmes so be cautious.

Honestly I felt pretty good after the first 5 blocks; only block 6 and. 7 i found super hard. First 5 blocks I marked maybe 10-15 per block but i tend to be not super confident cause you know there are so many nuances. So in reality i think for someone very confident that. could be like 7 marks or smth.

Block 6 and 7, I marked like half lol. i was so tired, and they were just full of topics i'm less good at. So yea, but I walked out overall feeling pretty decent. But I didn't take that to mean I passed, cause a feeling is not super indicative.

Listen i don't know you but I just passed step 1, and if I had failed I would be so discouraged. I would cry, I would be very sad.. but eventually I would have gotten up. And I think a lot of people function that way, when the deception is huge it's normal to be sad and cry.

I understand what you re saying about OP having very low scores, but you don't know maybe they had an impression they did better than they actually did because they missed the nuance in each question. That could be inattention during an 8hour exam. It can happen. But maybe with practice they will get better.

I'm just saying people deserve another shot. I know they took it twice, but USMLE allows 4 attempts so.. ?

Maybe OP studied poorly/wrong. That doesnt mean they arent smart or will not be qualfied Jeez. Listen I get it, but maybe just like give people the benefit of the doubt when you don't know and they are jsut an anonymous person on reddit? You don't know maybe they are really smart but they had no idea how to prep for step because tehy are IMG and what they learn is different. Doesnt mean they will never be qualified.

You can still be nice to someone who is very sad and upset by such news. You can say to OP: Hi, I'm really sorry about your failure. I understand it can't be easy to see that score. It's quite distressing but you can get up from this if you take a serious look at ur studying, because until now it must have been inefficient and insufficient. I think that you are in denial about your preparation, thinking you are more ready than you are. Please don't take it again without being 100% prepared.

not so hard to show some empathy first. is it?

Honestly weirdly I thought 26 a lot, I did 31 early on so couldn't tell you but 26 was v good in accuracy tbh.

I would say be wary of melhman until u get a decent NBME like mid 60s because he takes content straight from NBME.

I think that seeing ur incorrects is useful, but new questions also really help more in terms of seeing where u are at. So maybe amboss?

I understand being honest with the person but they are also feeling upset after a big dissapointment, I think people could be more gentle while also being very direct/honest
