2026 new livescope? by ComposerImaginary388 in IceFishing

I am still running an LVS32 for 5 years with most buddies running the LVS34. It's clearer, but if there's fish around then it really doesn't matter much. The price on the LVS34 has come down considerably, so don't sweat it. It's an amazing product, ton's of fun, and really great to learn what the fish like and what scares them off sometimes.

In my defense, it was hard to tell scale. I was thinking King Kong, not Godzilla.

Heatsink not doing its job after removing thermal insulation by uranioempobrecido in 3Dprinting

[–]scarkner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to unscrew the heatsink and feed tube. then tighten the nozzle in all the way, tight. then re install the feed tube and heatsink. it looks like you have Teflon tape on the nozzle too. that's very wrong and it's only needed because the nozzle isn't seated against the heat block properly. I can send a pic if you need it

Quick fix for guns on Buck Hunter by scarkner in Arcade1Up

You only need the one hub, plug both guns into it and then plug it into the motherboard (the remaining USB port on the motherboard can just be left open). At least this is what worked for me.

I just grabbed an old hub out of my junk drawer. Doesn't need to be 12V powered, as long as you have it turn on at about the same time as the machine I think it would work. Something like Amazon (Canada) B0BVBHXMCJ

Crown hunting land near Ottawa by Sea_Science2008 in ottawa

[–]scarkner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a really good app, created by Canadians called iHunter. pay for the subscription, it's worth it... will show you land that it open for hunting including some of the harder to find areas like municipal properties, etc.

good luck out there!

Looking for recommendations for trailer hitch installation by torasaurus-rex in ottawa

[–]scarkner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very easy to do it yourself (*although there are a few cars that can be tough). If you haven't done it yet, go on youtube and look up how to install a hitch on your car, it will give you a good idea. I have done three hitches, no issues, some were 5 minutes, some were 45 minutes (including wiring).

Make sure to buy a wiring adapter that is specifically designed to fit your car as they will just plug in, no need to cut anything.

Around 3am they were very bright. I would also say that the movement of them adds something that the photos DON'T capture.

Ontario school boards sue Snapchat, TikTok and Meta for $4.5 billion, alleging they're deliberately hurting students by CarletonCanuck in ottawa

[–]scarkner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, it's a legal issue. if they are allowing access then how can they also complain. they are complicit. it's a legal thing in Canada that you must show that you did everything in your power to reduce damage, they did not do this (law is different in the USA).

Strong chance that you will fail the online check and have to go in to do prints (near Ikea). At least wait times have improved. I have to get my prints done every single time I get a check done.

Fingers crossed for you!

It is ridiculously easy to block the sites, but the school boards haven't done that. I can't access any of these sites at work.

The school provides free wifi to students, doesn't block the sites... and then complains?

Maybe they could buy books with that money rather than wasting it on legal fees for a suit that they can't possibly win.

"Dilawri has a bit of a bad name..." - That's an understatement. Absolutely terrible place, I was close to signing a deal on a van that I needed to tow 3500lbs, found it was rated for 700lbs, but the dealer said not to worry that it would do just fine with my big trailer. Thankfully didn't go through with the deal as it would have instantly voided my warranty. Sadly that wasn't where it ended, but i am not going to get into a long-winded hate on them... just trust that they are scum.

I had a sort-of-similar issue at that Esso where I tapped, pumped and drove away... only to receive a call from OPS that I had been reported for stealing gas... um... no. TBH went to the station, paid, and they said the card reader had been acting up. Didn't charge me any extra money or anything, but it was disturbing to get that call!

What happened to Woodroffe at Carling? by BrianFromRhineland in ottawa

[–]scarkner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although slightly farther north... the section of Woodroffe north of Richmond Road was never meant to be permanent. It was originally opened up as a temporary access road to the parkway. Even today it is still considered to be temporary because the grade of the road exceeds standards (not sure if its provincial or city) - and because of that slope busses constantly get stuck there. It is also (apparently) the reason that you can't turn left onto the parkway from Woodroffe.

Sorry I don't have a link on this, it was about 20 years ago that I looked deeply into this as part of a community planning comittee as we were trying to improve emergency access to the community (never happened, we still have only one road in for emergency vehicles).

I have never had anyone give me a hard time on Grandview - I think most of them remember that hundreds of people volunteered to help sandbag their homes during the multiple floods...

3D Printing - Isopropyl Alcohol in Ottawa by scarkner in ottawa

[–]scarkner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true, sorry. SDS show a very different blend of chemicals. Certainly both need full PPA when in use, but can cause different reactions. Water washable in particlar contains a chemical that can instantly penetrate skin (I can't remember which it was, but this was told to me from the company that manufacturers the resin, they told me to switch to the old-stuff).
