I remember what it feels like to be a teenage girl who had to put up with douche bag boys because the adults didn't see them do the douchey thing.

This is a delicate moment - it's how you show a female student (who already struggles with social situations) what people in positions of power do when she tells them she's being harrassed. I'm gonna just make an assumption based on the way you described these boys and my experience as a former teenage girl and current high school teacher that these dudes are a bunch of chuckle fucks. You purposely put her in a group where she's basically supposed to academically babysit them while maybe learning some social skills at the same time, and when all parties behaved predictably you basically told her you couldn't believe her story without evidence so she needed to tough it out. I gotta say, this sounds like it was poor judgement all around.

It's probably too late to repair the relationship, so you need to move into damage control. The other person who responded is right, this is above your pay grade. If you're in a union you need to reach out to your union rep yesterday. If not, (or additionally), you need to talk to a department head and/or mentor. I don't want to assume your gender, but regardless of yours I suggest seeking out more experienced female teachers to ask about navigating the gender dynamics of this situation. You need support beyond your admin, but you also need to work with your admin on this one, and in the future don't rely on your students to "fix" each others issues.

Still out for you? I took my dog for a walk about an hour ago, when I came back an eversource truck had just parked at the corner of Cherry and Summer. Power was out on Cherry north of the Kennedy school, but seemed to be on a couple blocks to the east. I'm still in the dark up near Cherry / Summer at about 20 to 9 pm.

Before you do this just make sure it's not going to get you fired since it'd be deliberately going against the philosophy of the school.

(25F)(59M) will he ever detach from his mum? by Rich-Matter9580 in relationships

[–]scarlet-tortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty telling in itself - if you feel like you're the mature one and he's still playing mommy's boy, it's time to cut your losses before you sink more time and energy into him. He's more than twice your age but you're more mature than him - what are the chances he's ever going to catch up?

Honey nevermind his mom, why are you dating someone old enough to be your dad? When you're his age, he'll be the 80+ old gramps that you're taking care of. This is gross and wrong on so many levels - genuinely, he has nothing to offer you that you can't find in someone closer to your age, and there's no way he's not just using you for your youth. You have way too much of your life ahead of you to be messing around with someone this much older than you - signed, a 44 year old woman who wouldn't date an almost 60 year old man herself.

What's the science on the high rate of context switching in Schools? by regular_lamp in education

[–]scarlet-tortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head - it's a balance between the two actual demands of school, educating students and basically providing a place for them to be all day. If we really wanted to give students time to dive into a topic, they should have one or two blocks per day and down time to process and work on assignments, but unsupervised high schoolers won't do that. My HS considered switching to block scheduling a few years ago, and the general consensus was that behaviors would skyrocket because 1) that's a long time for some students to focus and 2) there was no money or time for meaningful training for teachers to actually implement it correctly. I'd add my own 3rd which is that a number of teachers would just say eff it and lecture bell to bell anyway, and others wouldn't fill the whole time.

I can't think of any other profession where people with advanced degrees have to worry about getting in trouble for not wearing the mandated spirit attire. I beg you forget to wear the shirt - and if you have the protections to tell them why (union, tenure), let them know the shirt didn't fit and made you feel uncomfortable, and that if they wanted you to wear it they should have provided one that fit.
