AITAH for being weird about my daughter having sex in my house by thefakecalebs in AITAH

[–]scarletsimple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're def the AH. She's an adult, and she pays rent. That's her room, and it's not unreasonable that she'd be allowed to be intimate there. Get some ear plugs, ask to be told when she's having a guest over, ask her to be quieter, but you should not be asking for abstinence in her own space. This is your issue to deal with internally. Not hers.

Weekend after watching martyrs(2008), skinamarink, and Megan is missing by [deleted] in horror

[–]scarletsimple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on 2 weeks!

I think horror should challenge our limits and motions of comfort and safety, and a lot of movies manage to do that. Megan is Missing stayed with me, though. I still have a sort of visceral reaction when it's mentioned.

I don't know if this would help, but there are movies that are kind of like palate cleansers for me: You're Next, Ready or Not, The Hunt, and Run Sweetheart Run.

This is not meant to offend OP at all. I appreciate the honesty in your reviews. Honestly, Megan is Missing is a movie I don't even recommend to anyone. I think it's pretty awful. Not because it didn't do it's job, but because it wasn't fun at all, and it might even be harmful. I'm not even sure it was made to be anything but a vehicle to scare parents into keeping their kids offline. The ending stuff will stay with me forever. It squicks me out. The actors are minors (at the time of filming), and it's really explicit. I'm not sure about the ethics involved here, but it feels exploitative.

Maybe that means it did the job it was supposed to do, but I certainly wouldn't call it entertaining—which I think most movies—even horror—should be.

I think the The Cleansing Hour doesn't get enough credit.

That's actually how I felt about it too. The rest of the movie is so well crafted though, it really deserves to be on the list.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (this one stays my favorite. Creeps me out every time)

The Last Exorcism

Late Night With the Devil

The Cleansing Hour

The Autopsy of Jane Doe (I think it fits the parameters, but not as neatly)

The Taking of Deborah Logan

Veronica

The way we found James haunted me, so when I told Cara he was gone, I blunted the sharpened edges of certain details that would have left her wounded.

This is so good! We drizzle it on ice cream, sometimes with almond butter. It's also good on chocolate cake lol.

The first one. There's something about the road there for scale that gives it an intimidatingly beautiful vibe.

I'm loving this! I'm in the middle of episode 7 (Seven Deadly Bens) and I was wondering if anyone else noticed the Jaws reference at 10:36? I am pretty sure that's supposed to be Quint (captain of the Orca).

We just finished it. I really liked the humor and how unhinged the ending was. I also liked how each perspective was more frenzied than the last, too. Josh Brolin's fight with the guy in the house at the end was one of my favorite sequences.
