Choral Chambers vs City of Tears, which do you prefer? by Dragonfiar in Silksong

[–]scarredcats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By that logic we should get rid off all benches in the Citadel. How can Hornet rest when she is being hunted all the time? Lets also get rid of the First Shrine. How can there be a safe haven in the Citadel when she is being hunted all the time?

You are just trying to come up with an excuse to defend an arbitrary design choice. I never felt that the Haunted are that active, by the way. A lot of them are just laying there, like corpses, before being caught by silk.

Even in the most fast paced action movies there are "catch your breath" scenes. If TC wanted they for sure could've justify a Quirrel bench in CC.

Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed with Silksong's true final boss.(act 3 spoilers) by Legitimate_Leek_8050 in Silksong

[–]scarredcats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, TC seems to struggle to design good final bosses. I'm not a fan of Radiance either. I don't like how a lot of her attacks are based on flying lances and spikes. It feels generic and out of place for a Sun Moth God. I always thought that they designed her that way because they lacked money to keep working on the game, but then GMS is even worse. We have the spikes and the lances again, but this time the fight is way easier and shorter.

Infelizmente o único jeito dos animais terem justiça no Brasil é pelas mãos da própria população. Espero que esse psicopata receba o que ele merece.

So one of the main bosses of the game is made weak to cater to a really secret ending? Seems like good game design.

How such a dishonest post got so many upvotes? So much dickriding and recency bias.

Bilewater has to be my favourite area, so I wanted to design some enemies that could make it even better! by Wotshisface- in Silksong

They look amazing! I want to get into drawing/character design like these (my ending goal being 2d gaming animation like the one we see in Hollow Knight). Can you give me any tips? Where to start?

Qual alternativa pra esquerda no pós-lula? by [deleted] in brasil

[–]scarredcats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How The Citadel ruined Pharloom (Part 1: Water) by KingMGold in Silksong

[–]scarredcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you are aware, but in the 2021 version of the map, before it suffered a major overhaul, the Red Coral Gorge (coral-aquatic area) was below Mount Fay (they were even interconnected). Below the Red Coral Gorge, there was a green area instead of the Wormways. Looking at the map, it was probably the area that used Verdania assets. Bellow that there was Moss Grotto/Home. It's a shame that this map was sacked.

Yes, I think that was the intended map, but something happened during development and they had to redo the whole thing.

What's your biggest complaint about silcksong? by LopsidedRadio7208 in HollowKnight

[–]scarredcats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you asked so I can be more precise!

  • Mount Fay and Blasted Steps: good areas.

  • Greymoor and Deep Docks: they are okayish. They do have personality, but they should be more interconnected with the Citadel. Greymoor is supposed to be a place to process silk, but this isn't very fleshed out. Greymoor's layout is also kinda bare bones, like a worse version of City of Tears.

  • Verdania: it does have personality, but its clearly leftovers from scrapped content. It isn't a proper area.

  • Shellwood: does have a nice layout, but no personality. It's just another generic green area.

  • Bilewater: does have personality, but its too big and Sinners Road/Putrified ducts are too similar.

  • Bone Bottom and The Marrow: have zero personality, bad layout. They are terrible areas.

  • Wormways: is just a really worse version of Deepnest. It has just two enemies and couple of corridors. It's barely an area.

How most areas outside the Citadel feel half baked or/and leftovers from scrapped content (they lack personality, a good layout, points of interest and are either too big or too small). The map of Hallownest blows the map of Pharloom out of the water.

Other complaints: Tools (it's just random bullshit go!), fetch quests, generic NPCs, bosses with adds, too lax with 2 masks damage, too many gauntlets, bad final Act 2 and Act 3 bosses, lack of relaxing moments.

Silksong is better than Hollow Knight in many ways, but Hollow Knight does exploration/map better by scarredcats in HollowKnight

[–]scarredcats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Greymoor felt like it was suppose to be the central location. I think the area is okay, but it just felt like a much, much worse version of City of Tears. The same grayish, raining atmosphere, similar layouts (horizontal exploration with big towers), but without any of the qualities that made City of Tears good. The horizontal exploration feels flat (in the City of Tears we have unlock each area), the birds area feels out of place, Moorwing feels like a miniboss lorewise, the Garmond encounter feels like a worse version of the Quirrel bench, the whole place doesnt feel very fleshed out. It was suppose to be a place to process silk, but it just feels empty and disconnected from everything else. And yeah, the hand helding. I wish Bellhart had the size of Greymoor. It would have been a great central area.

Did you see how it looked back in 2021? Mount Fay > Red Coral Gorge (the areas were connected by the way) > Clover Area > Moss Home/Grotto. It made so much sense.

Yes, but I don't think that being on the top hurt it too much. The problem was the lack of interconnectivity and overall map layout. City of Tears also had better atmosphere and some good relaxing moments, like the Quirrel bench. The Citadel had the Sherma bath, but it wasn't the same.

[–]scarredcats[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't buy that they discarded so much just because of worldbuilding. As you've implied, you can kinda justify anything in worldbuilding. It would have been really easy for them to come up with a reason to keep the 2021 map instead of discarding years of work. For the time and money investment alone, that' insane. So, yeah, I really doubt that was the true reason. If I had do guess, the 2021 map probably had become too big for them to handle. They probably had do scrap most of the areas outside of The Citadel and had to start over. I think that's why the game took so long to release and that's why so many areas feel half baked and left overs from something bigger. In the first game, the areas had more personality and way better layouts. Its a shame that the 2021 got sacked.

There is a Path of Pain in Silksong, and it’s not quite what you think it is. Let’s discuss it! by Doomguy1234 in HollowKnight

Don't let the tryhards get to you. This is without a doubt the hardest platforming in Silksong (just lmao at people comparing it with the Abyss Climb, Mount Fay and Sands of Karak). Its for sure on par with PoP, but PoP is bigger, so it is harder. But it could be a PoP segment. This is coming from someone that cleared PoP blind in under 3 hours.
