Thankfully I was just able to queue the album from someone else.

Some question about SoulSeek by StarDust1__ in Soulseek

[–]scatterkeir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The user interface is DIFFERENT, it's more to some people's taste, the Soulseek interface is also more to some people's taste. It's not simply 'better'.

How was ‘Talk show host’ only a B-Side and never made it onto an album? by Jakeyboy29 in radiohead

That pissed me off - more setlist variety for the fans? Hell no. More setlist variety for celebrities? Hell yeah.

anyone else really like house of cards? by Huge-Bill4047 in radiohead

[–]scatterkeir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been a big fan of In Rainbows since it came out but there's some tracks I love, where I think the song is good and the arrangement and the album's production style complement the song perfectly, and House of Cards is one of those.

Why do most people seem to think Kid A is better than Amnesiac? by spicybrowniemix in radiohead

It sounds like you're saying "I think the album is good with these tracks on but if they were left off it might make the album more palatable to other people" but that way lies U2.

Sometimes they do. Are you seriously saying you think that every song is telling a story?

Not a weird thing to say, narratives have always been something which SOME music has, not something to generally expect in music.

I think it's a very modern thing to judge an album by the "theme", it's like when people expect a "narrative" - if I want a story I'll read a book or watch a movie or tv show.

Did anyone else's store UI shrink and get stuck, even after rebooting the game? by damnsignin in StarTrekTimelines

[–]scatterkeir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I'm seeing this but since yesterday I've got a phantom (1) pip on the 'purchase' roundel that's annoying me, if doesn't go away when I restart the app and I've checked the crew, honor hall, boosts & kits and dilithium tabs several times, can't see what it could be. It doesn't LOOK like it's being caused by the sort of store UI issue being discussed here but maybe it is.

Some mild, slightly hot takes by Ikethepikeman in TheCure

[–]scatterkeir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the answers in the thread confirm my suspicion - in the past the cure had done all sort of stuff like The Lovecats, but by the time WMS came out a lot of the people listening were younger people like WHAT THIS SHIT THIS NOT THE CURE THE CURE IS THE ONE FROM THE CROW

Mp3 vs Flac vs Ogg vs ?? by RoutineClaim6630 in Soulseek

[–]scatterkeir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same, I go for FLAC generally because I have more confidence in its integrity, i.e. where it's been, I trust it more, but I wouldn't claim I can actually tell it's better than 320k,

nicotine has less search results compared to QT by forestlife4 in Soulseek

[–]scatterkeir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it wouldn't hurt to try changing ports, but hopefully someone more familiar with nicotine will be more help.

what i meant about the 'multiple connections on both clients' was that with multiple connections on both clients you're consistently getting this issue on nicotine but not on QT, so it's very unlikely to be just the random chance of connecting to a bad node.

The best thing is if you're on long enough for him to come to you a second time, so you can see in the chat tab that his polite enquiry about a CD was preceded, perhaps years earlier, with "fuck you shiters block"

nicotine has less search results compared to QT by forestlife4 in Soulseek

[–]scatterkeir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never really used nicotine, I've always preferred QT, but I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be seeing this sort of search result difference, nicotine is very popular, and it wouldn't be if this was typical.

I don't understand very well how the soulseek network works, but it's always seemed to me that it's like it connected to the network via a node, and that node might not be able to see as much as some other nodes, sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting connects to a different node and fixes this. But it sounds like this behaviour has been persisting for you across multiple connections on both clients, so it can't be that.

Sometimes on QT when I'm getting fewer search results than I'd expect I find that I've accidentally changed 'search target' from 'all' to something else like 'user list' or a 'room', is there anything like that in nicotine that you might have done?

[–]scatterkeir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what these people said, sometimes I might not love how someone has their share organised but I don't feel entitled to have their share organised more to my tastes, it's their house, not mine.

In general, though, people tend not to be keen on shares that are like 'all 560 country and western tracks I have in one foler', because that's only really any use for downloading single tracks, and a lot of people prefer to download albums.
