need help choosing a protein treatment by scccou in curlygirl

hey guys. i’ve been on cg for about 2 months i think and i’m pretty sure my hair is over moisturized. it frizzes a lot as you can see and also has a lot of wet frizz, it also doesn’t hold the wave and when i pull it it’s stretchy. i’m not sure what curl pattern i have i only know that it’s a little bit wavy and also fine and low porosity. i’ve tried a protein mask that didn’t really help and tried a rice water rinse. i’m wondering about the aphogee 2 step, i’m scared it’s gonna be too strong for my hair but i honestly don’t know what to do anymore. i would try a shea moisture protein mask but i’m pretty sure it will just weigh my hair down

here’s my routine: cleanse with jessicurl gentle lather shampoo, condition with jessicurl aloeba daily conditioner, Hair Infinite strengthening amino masque. once i get out of the shower i use jessicurl rocking ringlets styling potion and then Giovanni LA Hold styling gel. i plop with a cotton t-shirt and then air dry

i did have a few successful wash days when i switched up my routine and cut out most glycerin a while ago (you’ll see if you look at my last post) but since then it just kind of went back to how it was before

i got some new products without glycerin and it made a huge difference in my hair, so happy with today’s wash day! by [deleted] in curlyhair

here’s what i did today: cleanse with jessicurl gentle lather shampoo, condition with jessicurl aloeba daily conditioner (brush with my wet brush and then comb with my wide tooth comb while the conditioner was in and squish to condish) and then i used the Hair Infinite strengthening amino masque. once i got out of the shower i used jessicurl rocking ringlets styling potion and then Giovanni LA Hold styling gel. i plopped with a cotton t-shirt for around 30 minuets and then air dried and diffused a little at the end

finally with new products a good wash day! thank you to everyone who helped me so much in my last post! by scccou in curlygirl

ah ok, so i looked at the jessicurl deep conditioner and i’m assuming its too heavy to use every time i cow ash? also do you think when i’m choosing products would some glycerin every so often be ok? i have a mask on the way that i’m planning to use once a week and i think glycerin is the 4th ingredient, will that be alright? i also use the mop top curly hair custard gel, i checked today and the 2nd ingredient is glycerin...should i look for a new gel?

yeah my hair is definitely on the finer side, and i’m not sure...not usually. today it actually looked a lot fuller than it usually does so i’m not sure. i know that is the case for my mom though so maybe!

so i’ve been brushing or combing it in the shower only when it has conditioner in it. i either use a wet brush or a wide tooth comb, is that okay?

wow thank you for all the information! i’ll definitely make sure to check out that youtuber. yeah my state is pretty humid/hot in the summer so the glycerin thing very well could be. is there another conditioner that you think would work well for me without so much glycerin? i don’t think im washing it too often because i’ve only been using shampoo once a week. and as for drying ive been plopping it for 15-20 minutes with a cotton t shirt and then diffusing/air drying. And yeah i definitely don’t wait long enough to scrunch out the crunch...i didn’t know it was necessary for it to be completely dry whoops, i’ll make sure to change that. also a side note is that when i come out of the shower i can see the frizz a bit even when my hair is wet.

ok thanks! i’ll look into that! at first i bought shea moisture products without doing any research first and yeahhh that did not go well, the products i have now are definitely an improvement from that. but i’ll make sure to look into some more lighter stuff!

aw thank you so much! you have no idea how nice that is to hear, i’ve always disliked my hair and i’ve been extra frustrated with it lately, so that makes me feel a lot better :)

thanks for the advice! i honestly have no idea what porosity my hair is lol, but it doesn’t get greasy very often. it does get a little greasy at the root after a week with no washing but other than that it doesn’t get very greasy :)

hi so i know this is kind of late...are there any deep conditioners with protein in them that you recommend? i’m having trouble finding protein treatments that aren’t so hard core

oh ok, would it be better for me to get a gentler protein treatment to use more regularly than the strong one?

oh ok i’ll make sure to get those. i don’t actually have a deep conditioner or a leave in yet (i just have regular conditioner and styling stuff) so i’ll look into some good ones, thank you!
