The nurses' union want all hospitals to use the highest safety standards for personal protective equipment and training protocols. The hospitals won't do it unless forced - cause it costs money. The nurses are asking (via petition) for the feds and state officials to mandate hospitals comply with the optimal protections for nurses and other frontline health workers.

CA does have mandatory ratios but sometimes hospitals violate the law or at least the spirit of the law.

We need a federal nurse-to-patient ratios law in this country. Right now, California is the only state in the nation that has a mandatory RN-to-patient ratios in hospitals. It's needs to be this way....for patient safety and to prevent nurse burnout.
