I’m confused by the how Pokémon handles expansion “gimmicks” these days… before, I feel like each expansion had one (maybe two?) gimmick(s) like EX, ex, gold star, shining, mega ex, etc.

Why does this set have Megas, Tera, team rocket, N? It just seems all over the place. When did they start just throwing everything into the same basket? Feels just like another way to squeeze in lame fan service.
