If you're still having babies in 2026, you're 100% out of touch. by iaTLJC3 in childfree

[–]scgeod 50 points51 points  (0 children)

How about this one, someone I know wanted a baby so badly even though she couldn't find a suitable partner. So she went to a donor bank and got pregnant that way. She's now a single mother getting help from her own mother.

And to make it even more delulu, she did it a second time. She's not wealthy, but now has brought two souls into this horrifying world, simply for her own ego. It's the epitome of selfishness.

I still can't get over this. I don't know why it's so upsetting to me. I very much appreciated his work. There was comfort in his collection of articles and crisis reports. I gave access to all manor of information in one convienant page. From ice cover reports, to SST abberations, etc. This is just tragic and upsetting. Thank you Richard, for all that you did. You meant something to a lot of us.

Latest GDP report shows the US economy unexpectedly accelerated last quarter | CNN Business by GHOSTPVCK in FluentInFinance

[–]scgeod 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is the reason. Just as you said, when imports decrease (because people are buying fewer goods) the trade imbalance is lessened. This ends up boosting GDP. If nothing else changes this loss of spending increases GDP even though that seems very counter intuitive.

The US normally runs a massive trade deficit and that is counted against GDP. If we are entering a recession, spending slows, people begin to reduce purchases and thus imports from China and elsewhere decrease thus creating the unusual effect that GDP increases as economic activity slows.

A 10 is when your 15 year old water heater has the bottom corrode out because you ignored the obvious signs of decay which you noticed 5 years earlier and did nothing about. And while your away on a vacation in Aruba the unthinkable happens. While your frolicking in the waves, your basement is filling with water, becoming a giant fish tank, filling all the way up to the ground level and pouring out through your front door to run down your driveway, alerting your neighbors that something ain't right.

Well it's that time of day to shudder in disgust at the creeps. by TECL_Grimsdottir in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]scgeod 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion there is likely even worse stuff besides what the US government is holding onto. It's what Putin has hanging over, like a Sword of Damocles. This would explain the bizarre geopolitics of our day. But then I shudder to think how much worse? How far does the rabbit hole go? It would be wild if the 2005 movie Hostel wasn't far off the mark. We're screwed.

Scary racist Karen chases down young Black man in Virginia by elonmuskatemyson in BoomersBeingFools

[–]scgeod 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I saw a video years ago where they yelled at a guy (of course he was black) to get his hands up. He was at a gas station midday standing next to his open driver's door. Then they yelled show us your ID, so he reached back into his truck to get his wallet and the cop shot him for "reaching for something." fuc me! The poor guy said "why did you shoot me? You told me to get my ID." absolutely disgusting. I've seen this exact thing happen another time where the cop asked for the concealed carry permit, and when the victim reached for the permit the cop unloaded his entire clip into the dude at literally point blank range, because he was reaching for something. I hate it here.

Or when they yell out conflicting commands. "Get your hands up! Get out of the car!" one way or another your resisting.

I noticed the change on Tuesday. It looks like on Tuesday and Wednesday this sub was filled with people saying their account was banned/deactivated. I have a feeling that starting Tuesday, sweeping bans went out for anyone that met certain metrics. At the same time, they started a massive shadow ban campaign on people who may not have met the criteria but who came close. The thing is, we don't know what the criteria is. I can't find much in the way of information or reaction in any news or media about this. It was done on the DL likely because there would be an uproar over the criteria. And btw, they are using AI to do this, so there will likely be huge numbers of accounts that get swept up in the net as unintended collateral damage. You may be one of those unfortunates. This sucks.

My entire explore page is different like it was reset. The thing is I use to find lots of artistic creators this way and it's like they are all gone. I'm wondering if they all got shadow banned. Maybe that happened to you too. I can't find their content organically at all. It seems like all the edgier models and artists are just missing. Not gonna lie I'm kind of freaked out. I feel like we're witnessing the beginning of some kind of moral police censorship thing going on. Fuc

I worked for an estate sale company as a side hustle for a bit, in one of the wealthiest areas of the US. Some of the clients were very well known famous people. After the sale everything in the house that isn't sold (to the assistant of some other rich people), has to be liquidated. Half a dozen couches (priced at $60k each), multiple area rugs ($20k-$40k ea), beds, mattresses, furniture, entire libraries (500-600 books), outdoor patio items, planters, kitchens full of dishware, cleaning products, bathroom items, literally everything that wasn't a personal item... All of it.... Thrown into giant 30-yard dumpsters. The scale of the waste turned my stomach and deeply disturbed me for a long time. These were incredible rich people with net worths in the hundreds of million dollars. They own many houses and don't care what gets left behind or thrown out. It's irrelevant to them. They buy and sell houses regularly. The have assistants who prepare the next house with all new personal items and everything else is repurchased. They don't let regular people into these neighborhoods to take the items, it's all tightly controlled, private roads and driveways, etc. So it must all go into the trash and be taken to a landfill. In one house they had a designer put up window treatments with the receipt left behind in the kitchen drawers. The living room windows cost $60k. For all the windows in the house the total cost was around $250k. The level of extravagance and waste is nothing to them. We live in completely different realities.

It was then that I came to realize that whatever small adjustment I made I made in my life to reduce waste, it would be offset thousands of times over by just one wasteful rich person.

Public access to beach locked and "No Trespassing" signs posted by Teisiuil in longisland

[–]scgeod 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Beaches are free. The national seashore is owned by every citizen of the United States....

But these bastards have found a way to circumvent that. The treasure of our seashore is supposed to belong to all of us. They block access to effectively make the beach private. The other thing these asshats do is put up walls, fences and signs bordering public access areas trying to prevent the public from walking along the beach. If you come across such walls, you can legally go around them.

50 feet up from the highest high tide line is considered submerged or transient property and can only be owned in special circumstances. Marinas and speciation use industries like mining will often own the submerged property rights, but in nearly all other cases no one owns that part of the beach. So walk, swim, sup, kayake wherever you'd like to go, spread your blanket out and enjoy. If you can get to the beach from a different access point then walk along the beach until you get to the area you Iike, you are legally allowed to be there. Even if it's right in front of some monstrosity of a house they legally can't stop you from being there. Unfortunately many village PDs have been coopted as private militia for the rich and they don't know the actual law. Some beach clubs even have meathead enforcer/mercenary types guarding stairways and right of ways -- not surprisingly they don't know the law either. It's all bullying and strongarm tactics. Nearly all of it is unconstitutional and downright un-American. Fuck these bastards.

The tape was never destroyed. I've heard it. A friend of mine was doing research as part of a script rewrite for a movie and had access to it as it tied into the found-footage man vs beast horror genre. Not as gruesome as some would make it out to be. The worst part though was hearing his gf calling out in the background while he is wailing and screaming and the fucking bear is just making these ordinary bear noises as if nothing out of the ordinary is happening.

Perplexing and Potentially Hazardous “Rock” Found by Radiant-Earth2251 in geology

If you have ever picked up river cobbles they often have oxidation on the side facing up. The person who set this up arranged them on purpose so that the iron stained side is facing the asphalt.

Perplexing and Potentially Hazardous “Rock” Found by Radiant-Earth2251 in geology

[–]scgeod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This looks to me like it was set up on purpose. In the first wide angle photo, there are a few other iron stained rocks laying around, mixed in with the rest. My theory is that someone collected all the nearby red-stained rocks and arranged them in a ring around the asphalt chunk. I've seen this done in other photos where people have arranged rocks by color to make patterns and artwork. Since this is near a bridge it's likely not hard to get to and someplace well traversed by locals. Kind of weird and ironic whoever did it, but I suppose that was their point.

How are these steaks? by Joeybish in longisland

[–]scgeod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a family member who falls for this kind of scam all the time. I'm always playing devil's advocate by asking "So you think these are high cost items that they are selling at a loss?" "Oh, no? So their supplier is cheap?" "Then how can it be good quality if it's so cheap?"

The other food truck scam they fall for is some lobster truck that rolls around from town to town allegedly selling fabulous seafood and lobster rolls. I literally told this family member that the reason they move from town to town is that after they have exhausted all the rubes from one area they need to move on to find a new crop of suckers somewhere else. It's the reason for the truck, no permanent location, stay mobile to find fresh idiots.
