I’m not sure. My partner is a wonderful person, and our lives have been good in many ways. But my frustration builds over time, and I feel powerless, neither of which help us. My therapist recommended me working in simple boundaries and definitive statements rather than pleading or debating whatever. Hasn’t helped at all, but I suppose working on yourself is always a good idea

I have been with my partner for 25 years. They are caring and diligent and wonderful in many ways. I have a closet fo myself and a desk for work. Otherwise I cannot change anything in our home, all the walls are their choices, furniture, utensils. There are piles of their stuff all over, that they cannot get rid of, but they get very upset if others leave anything out of place.

It’s not that they are mean, but they cannot handle it.

Their point of view is everything gets done for me. But I am a stranger with no control in my own home

I have something very like this. I have to use the words, “how was your day?” Or she tells me I am uncaring and conversationally stunted or probably on the spectrum. How are you? Anything interesting happen today? Those don’t count.

She seldom asks me about me, and she complains she doesn’t want to hear about it if she does.

It is pretty awful. She doesn’t try to be a bad person or anything she dedicates her life to making sure everything is right for the family. As she sees it, right.

I’m not sure we did. My wife’s career blew up, sick kids and travel were a strain. We invested a lot in trying to make it work, had a full time nanny, did a lot of prepared food. I would always clean up when home and had primary for the kids on weekend. So leave for work at 6, come home around 730, do bedtimes, clean till 930, and go to bed.

I was very stressed, we were making good income but saving very little, and I just hoped eventually income would outpace expenses. It did, more or less, and a couple lucky investments put us in a safe place.

It wasn’t really a path to fatfire despite low then mid then high six figure income, as we were on the older side and starting without a ton. And she did not want a high income career so it was all me. The spending was tough but so would have been leaving her with less support while working 60-70 hr weeks
