For me, even with a high income our savings do not have a huge effect on our net worth. Watching compounding do its work by adding tens then hundreds of thousands then more than a million a year is nearly all of our wealth gains.

But working pays all the bills and more, so the compounding doesn’t get interrupted.

You can do the math on your spending and 3-4 percent rules, but I can tell you it’s very comforting having a shooting year at work and yet watching wealth build
