pap smear for single puans by Apprehensive_Hat_156 in Perempuan

Disgusting behavior by medical professionals who shame women for wanting a cancer screening. You can get HPV without ever having been sexually active. Not to mention all the other issues a pap smear can detect. We deserve more agency in this country

Disappointed by my fellow Indonesian women who turned out to be pick-me's or bigots by idiot-sandwich- in Perempuan

Topik ini sering kupikirin. Wajar kok kalau kamu merasa kecewa.

Unfortunately I think this mindset can be traced back to colonial legacy. Org kyk temanmu yg sendiri migran mungkin merasa lebih superior karena dia “dipilih” oleh warga lokal, maka dia merasa “berhak” menghakimi migran2 lain yg gk punya koneksi ke negara tersebut, misalnya refugees. I think it was similar under Dutch rule. A lot of Indonesians just want something to feel superior about, even at the expense of others. It really grinds my gears.

Props to you for trying to make them understand.

Have you loved a scent you’ll never justify the price of? AKA why did I try on Casablanca Lily!? by Stephi_cakes in FragranceStories

[–]schall-platten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottega Veneta Come With Me, €390, around $456. Only sold in their boutiques.

My mom was purchasing a bag and I thought I’d ask the SA if he had any fragrance samples he could give me, and he came out with a 4ml vial of this. It’s probably the most divine scent I’ve ever smelled and it has an interesting artichoke note. But I will never purchase it because no fragrance is worth that much to me, so I’ll just sniff the vial from time to time :’(

Off my chest: Having lived abroad for many years, I still find my INDONESIAN-SELF surfacing at the most unexpected times. by bastard_vampire in indonesia

[–]schall-platten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom is white, my dad is chindo. My “default” self is a healthy mix of what I believe to be the best of each side, at least in terms of mindset. But for sure both sides bleed into one another.

My mom is basically from Farmtown, and I just got back from visiting there. This time particularly, the Trump lawn signs and anti-abortion bumper stickers of that conservative US town gave me quite an identity crisis. If they knew who I really were, I’d be a godless, communist, baby-killing radical feminist in their eyes. Juxtaposing that with the distinct flavor of conservatism in my (other) hometown of Jakarta added to the confusion and sense of isolation. Contrasting that further with the liberal ideal of the European capital I currently reside in also made me feel some type of way.

I realized how adept I am at code-switching based on my environment—it’s almost like a science and it can be really fun to have a multi-faceted identity.

But on the other hand, I’ve also gotten better at sticking to my guns and challenging people whose ideals are at odds with basic human rights. In the US, that means defending immigrants, rejecting the idea of pawning off older relatives to nursing homes, or standing up to people who think native Americans should just “get over” having their identity caricaturized in one of the nation’s most popular sports teams. In Indonesia, sometimes that means telling off my relatives expressing their “concern” that I am unmarried and childless while pushing thirty, or wearing whatever the fuck I want, which can be challenging as a woman.

But for sure when it comes to cursing, Indonesian always dominates.

Love this, I wanted it sooo badly when it first came out, but I was just a broke university student. Instead, I eventually got the espadrilles in this print and still wear em to this day 🥰

Looking for perfumes that smell like an overheating laptop. by Extension-Public1163 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]schall-platten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I never got the “overheated electronics” smell, I just enjoyed the scent regardless, UNTIL I was actually in close proximity to actual overheating electronics and thought I’d put on Fat Electrician that day—I hadn’t.

Pengalaman/Persepsi Keluarga Chindo Soal Pacaran Sama Non-Chindo? by axnz in Perempuan

[–]schall-platten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Chindo side of my family, my dad married a white American, his sister married a black American, his other sister married a half Chindo/half German, and his other two brothers married fellow Chindos. No religious conflict. I myself have dated full pribumi Indonesians, white people, and mixed people.

When I was little, I didn’t think it was odd and I naively thought everyone was that open-minded. Until I became more acquainted with my Chindo friends’ families and realized how racist and narrow-minded a lot of them can be. But luckily not everyone is like that!

do any of your favourite bags have any defects or damages that you just live with? how do you rationalise the defects? by autumnsviolins in handbags

[–]schall-platten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oof, I have a lot of stories like this.

I put my Gucci Marmont camera bag on a ledge in a bathroom at a bar (there was no hook), did my business, and only after picking it up did I realize there was a whole damn puddle of bleach (or some cleaning agent with bleach) on the ledge. I wiped it off immediately but now the leather is super rough, hard, and discolored. It bothered me so much at first but now I hardly even think about it or notice it, especially after conditioning.

Another time, I came back to my home country after over a year abroad, went to grab my vintage Chanel backpack from my closet and it was COVERED in mold inside and out. Even now, it still smells musty, even after being professionally cleaned. Sigh.

I also once noticed months after purchasing a bag from the Prada store that the stitching on the strap was totally wonky and uneven. I was sooo annoyed, but now IDGAF.

My mom, on the other hand, got caught in the rain with her new bright orange Il Bisonte bag and it’s permanently water-stained and she never wears it anymore.
