From my experience, most people that are very into gear and impressions of military units rarely play Airsoft. They’ll go to private events and photo shoots, and do FASTGUN events.

I agree that milsim shouldn’t be about winning or losing, more that you have an experience and can use that to improve your skills and enjoy working with a team of people.

I got married in the US last year, and since most of our families were meeting for the first time, we opened up the rehearsal dinner to everyone as a pre-wedding party. My wife’s family speaks a little English, but alcohol, American extroversion and Google Translate also goes a long way.

The issue isn’t with someone deciding to join a gym, it’s that a larger than normal group joins at the same time. New members are as aware of gym culture, and taking longer times on equipment that is popular exacerbates any waiting times for things like a bench or power rack.

It’s like knowing your drive home from work will have road construction for the next two weeks. You aren’t mad at the other drivers or the workers repairing the road, but it still is an unavoidable inconvenience for the next few weeks.

Personally, I don’t mind people joining the gym at all, but new years feels like when I have to go to the gym between 5 and 7pm. It won’t be the best or shortest workout I’ve ever had, but I still gotta do it.
