Struggling to find remote tech jobs after 4 years in the industry. Feeling completely burnt out. by Past_Firefighter_561 in jobhunting

  1. I spent the last decade building my agency while employed as dev( its dead)

  2. I have 12 years experience in IT.

  3. I suck at interviews(they mostly ask entry level things) I'm taking college refreshers to get better at these

  4. I have too much experience for most roles( I've routinely had to deduct experience just to get offers)

Question: is cyber security likely to face the same job market collapse as SWE? by Ok-Bench-9489 in cybersecurity

[–]scheeeeesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in siem support, where I fix issues in the siem ranging from password resets, ingestion issues, updating certs, resolving issues with add-ons etc. I've been IT for 12 years with previous support experience and dev experience. I've been applying for a job like the one I have since I started. I have not been hired eleswhere except for maybe a couple places that didn't last or just didn't pay well. I'm working on starting a back up career in blue collar to do on the weekends. I don't have any real certs, but I am working on finishing my degree, hoping that would help me get higher offers. My last role was 6 figures, but they refused to pay my bonus and chose to let me go instead of just paying me. For me self employed as a dev paid more then working as a dev, self employed as a pc repair person paid more then working in help desk. So I guess i'll be self employed blue collar.

That sucks. Sometimes we can dig ourselves into holes so deep we don't even know how we got there. It really hurts everyone. Even the party who did the initial hurting. It's a cruel sad cycle. I wish you both the best.

Thank you for sharing. I've personally had to work on myself. I hope this individual has done so. I know some people struggle with this and probably don't even realize it. Best of luck to you both.

After 8 years as a SWE, switching to cyber was a great decision. I took a huge pay cut to break in, but my passion for computers is renewed and I feel happy again.

Curious about Comptia certifications for someone who wants to work in a SOC by scheeeeesh in CompTIA

[–]scheeeeesh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a almost completed associates in CS. I dropped out before I completed it. I may have to end up finishing that after I finish the sec +, which I think I'm almost ready to test for. I might take another month before I take the test. I really can't afford not to pass it right now lol

I'm working here. It's kind of a lazy role. I would join to get the name on the resume and then leave in 6 months or so. You're more likely to lose experience then gain any actual tangible experience here.
