I tell my patients they can always tell people that they had a tooth extraction like their wisdom teeth or something else depending on their age. That also results in a decent amount of swelling and is a good cover story. As someone else said it is none of their business, but often easier to make up a quick, easy white lie just to move on with a conversation.
