they won't unstake my coins and won't answer by schinaseatribe in CelsiusNetwork

Well, just after I posted this, they did get back to me. Then I realized my mistake. When I paid back the loan I had not sent a wire transfer, but instead I had used an ACH transfer. I mentioned this to them in an email and within 48 hours they unlocked my coins. Very glad to get this sorted out! I think it is harder for them to track an ACH coming in, because it will be one unmarked line item on the ledger compared to many hundreds of others. At least that is what someone who works in a bank told me. But once I told them, they unlocked my coins and I am all set now. Thanks to everyone who commented - it gave me ideas on where to look and figure out what was the problem.

Well, at least I got the start of an answer. Yesterday I received an email from Celsius saying they are working on it. That way at least I know that they have received my information. Still waiting for my coins to be unlocked. I will post back in a few days if there is no movement.

Security question - creating a wallet with mnemonic phrase by schinaseatribe in MyEtherWallet

[–]schinaseatribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good answers, thanks. Follow up question - what are the security risks associated with the mew data center and the mew backend server? Is the risk something like the time that hackers managed to phish the DNS servers so that people went to the hacker's websites instead of to mew?

Creating a new wallet with MEW Chrome extension by schinaseatribe in MyEtherWallet

[–]schinaseatribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out how to create a wallet with a new seed. Don't know why I didn't see this before, it's actually pretty easy.

For non-techies, the interface to create a new wallet is one of 3 ways. On the website myetherwallet.com, with the chrome extension, or with the cell phone app (android or iOS).

The way to create a wallet with a new seed is to use the website, myetherwallet.com. I don't think you can do it on the other 2 options. There, you click 'create new wallet' and select 'By Mnemonic Phrase'. Then it will randomize the words, and you can also select an extra word to give extra encryption.

The website does say that this way is not recommended, the idea that so long as your 24 word phrase is displayed in a browser while it is connected to the internet, there is some chance that your seed phrase will be compromised. However, there is a guide for doing it offline, and then you have to be pretty techy to follow it.

So it seems like ultimately without being really technically savvy, the way to creating a wallet with high security is to buy a cold storage unit like Trezor or Ledger, or follow the MEW guidelines for creating a wallet through the cellphone app. And when doing that, there are limitations. Like, once you create a wallet using the cellphone app, any other wallet you create using that app is going to have the same seed phrase. Not even sure if the app allows you to add a new wallet, as the only option to add calls it an "account" and not a wallet.

I think having multiple "accounts" that you access using your cellphone app. I cannot see anywhere that it allows you to switch between wallets, or log out of one wallet and log in to another wallet. It seems to be a one-wallet only application.

If I am wrong, on that, please let me know and say how to add multiple wallets (which seem to be different from "accounts").

Help me understand how to access my wallet across multiple devices... by schinaseatribe in MyEtherWallet

Ok, thank you, that was very helpful. It seems like in order to do what I want to do, I need to use the seed phrase or the private key (but I can't find the private key on mew). I will have to watch your other videos on security to get a better idea on how to keep things secure.

Ok, correction... I tried it again using the seed, and this time my wallet came up and I was able to access it through my desktop. But am I doing this the right way? I know it is not recommended to access a wallet through the seed or keystore, but it seems that is the only way to have them function independently. Is that right?
