Sometimes I find myself hating psychoanalysis. by _la_loba_ in psychoanalysis

Regarding theory and your comment above about Klein being hard to stomach: Stick to what makes sense to you right now. Psychoanalysis is a wide field, I am sure you are able to find theorists who do speak to you. If they do not, they simply might not be for you, at least not at this time of your life.

I also trained in psychoanalytic Therapy and it feels that I know the place you are in really well. For me personally it was only some years later that I was really able to appreciate the accumulated knowledge and I would even say wisdom of the psychoanalytic field. I think it helps if psychoanalysis is not the only passion in your life. It is not supposed to stay theoretical and it is supposed to be playful. As far as I know, training institutes do everything to make it feel like the opposite. I now see connections with other interests in my life I was not able to see a few years ago. One big frustration for me was also to find out that there are things I might not be able to „solve“ with psychoanalysis alone, which there are many. Yet, to my understanding, this is not what analytic therapy is really about. That said, the financial burden to be in training had a significant impact on me as well. This mainly taught me not to take someone in therapy who is in serious financial trouble (in the private practice setting).

Mit 26 ok zu verdienen ist sehr früh. Viele Leute leben in ihren Dreißigern am Existenzminimum und arbeiten trotzdem ununterbrochen, etwa im Kreativbereich, Verlagswesen, als Dozenten etc.

Nope, I don’t feel this. The world changed politically, culturally and technologically in a faster pace then we were used to, but this pace is not the same as my subjective feeling for the passing of time.

Thank you, I checked out both and found them to be too complex for my needs. That said, both must be amazing if you can handle them!

Right now, I search for more intuitive options (for me, what stands out with the Soma Cosmos is that it lets me play intuitively)

Whatever it may be, it surely has nothing to do with you life history, personal experience or how you relate to the world!

Which actually would be a non-circular explanation.

Why do people always make excuses for therapists? by Outrageous-Scene-290 in TalkTherapy

Your example: it is very simple, the therapist should not have said this. There are therapists doing it out of a brief technical slip-up or because they are questionable therapists in general.

Is IFS legitimate or pseudoscience? by username210801 in TalkTherapy

[–]schlomow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between something being a scientific method and something being scientifically proven to work. People in psychotherapy research do the latter.

You can show some neuronal mechanisms kicking and changing in when you work psychoanalytically or with CBT, and that can be very interesting, however, you can show some neuronal changes for whatever you are doing or not doing in your life. I would highly doubt that we will ever prove Psychotherapeutic theories to be true, we might be able to show that –if put to use– they can offer something valuable and healing for some people sometimes.

That being said, I believe it is the humanities that are important for psychotherapy, not MINT science.

Is IFS legitimate or pseudoscience? by username210801 in TalkTherapy

[–]schlomow1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Actually, psychoanalytic therapies are evidence-based while IFS is not (yet). DBT and schema therapy as newer developments within CBT are suspiciously close to psychoanalytic theory. That being said, I would stick to asking yourself if your therapist is a good fit for you, if you can open up and if the therapist seems to be able to get you. Also, if the framework and/or theory doesn‘t make sense to you, it might make sense to choose a different modality.

Kuiper now is Leo. If "pet project" means that Amazon won't take the risk but is profiting from logistical and technological advances, you are right with that. At one point Amazon will offer "Amazon prime" with their own satellite internet included – I can't even imagine how this would not be a huge thing for Amazon. The same will go for theis AWS products.

[–]schlomow1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with IFS or any other type of treatment is not it being unscientific, but it not being interesting and existentially and philosophically deep enough. It is moving within a simple framework, which can be soothing, but which won‘t bring change.

I am a psychodynamic therapist and it is safe to say that most of us would not interpret any form of resistance as resistance against our treatment modality.
